Block system update via redirect DNS

2022.png

This tutorial is for those who don't want to update their system, but don't want to completely block Nintendo's net connection.
Atmosphere only, but you can also do it in your router's settings.

how to do:
1. If your NS has already downloaded the update package, you need to remove it. I recommend use goldleaf to do this: Goldleaf→console and goldleaf settings→firmware and updates→delete pending
2. Add the following to atmosphere/hosts/sysmmc.txt, if this file doesn't exist, create it. (If you want to implement it in emunand, add the following to emummc.txt instead of sysmmc.txt)
Code:
#system update
127.0.0.1 sun.hac.lp1.d4c.nintendo.net*system_update_meta*
3. Restart your NS.
4. Go to settings and try to update the system, if the dns setting is in effect, you will get a network error message.

This dns setting will only block the connection of the system update (If I'm not mistaken), you won't get annoying update alerts anymore, but you can still download games or play online normally.
If you want to disable it, just delete it or put a ; in front of 127.0.0.1.
This method may not work if you have enabled the proxy in NS's Internet settings.

Nice guide for sysNAND users I guess.
Then again there aren't any non-sigpatches-related homebrew that didnt get an update as of now, afaik.

I keep misreading the thread title as "here's how to update the Block System via Redirect DNS" which is a hilariously incorrect interpretation.

Eventually you won't be able to play online or access the eshop when they make the update mandatory though, takes a week or 2 after the update to kick in
Yes, this method can only delayed the update for a short time, I mainly use it to wait for the atmosphere and some homebrews updates.

Usually when such a big title leaks the Temp will be the first to report about it (going off of historical reports here, Pokemon SV being the latest one I can recall seeing pop up here)
