So I finished Human Revolution...

Well, I'm a bit surprised. It turned out better than I thought.

I mean a lot of my issues still stand but overall I had a positive experience for the game. The setting and art was excellent, the gameplay ideas were great (although the execution wasn't), and I won't lie, I liked the plot.

The gameplay does definitely get better once you get farther into the game and get more augments. By the end of the game I was pretty boss at almost everything. I could hack up to Level 4 with max Hacking Stealth upgrade, had 60% damage reduction, maximum cloaking abilities, you get the deal. It's a game that really feels proper once you get more abilities to play with.

That being said, I still feel it's a fault of the developer to have such a slow beginning. At least give us more Piraxis points (or whatever they're called) in the beginning to help us develop our skills. Otherwise you're stuck in a pretty boring rut for the first few hours. I had to spend so much time into investing into almost basic necessities, like the Icarus upgrade or whatever it is (which eliminated fall damage), moving heavy objects upgrade, stuff that was just for convenience. Only later was I really able to invest into the fun stuff like cloaking, double takedowns, etc.

Yeah, boss battles are fucking shit. Like seriously, whoever designed them needs to quit game developing. Even if this was some hyper action FPS game they'd still be awful. They were just designed terribly, putting aside the big "fuck you" they present to everyone who wanted to go stealth or hacking.

Overall I'd say the game was better than DA2 on terms of a WRPG, although that isn't saying much, but I still enjoyed it. Incredibly flawed in parts? Absolutely. But a terrible game? I wouldn't say that. A lot of the things I thought I would hate, like some of the art and the plot, grew on me. It has its hiccups but it's a worthwhile game.

I literally just finished playing it myself.

I agree that the boss fights were lackluster, but I don't think the bosses were supposed to be anything more than "stronger than usual enemies" - they were probably designed to further prove the point that augmentation aside, the bosses *are* just augmented soldiers.

That said, without spoiling the fun for others, the final confrontation could use a bit more work - the plasma rifle is so overpowered that nothing stands a chance againts it and at this point you recieve an abundance of ammo for it.

It could also use a bit more of the "conspiracy" flavouring - the previous installments had more plot twists. Not saying that Human Revolution does not, but I'd love to see "more" than I have. Probably it's DLC material, at least I hope so.

It's definitelly a great game, totally worth a purchase and even though it wasn't "perfect", it's still a good prequel and it left me hungry for more. I sincerely hope there's a sequel comming up, the franchise deserves it.

Eh, the thing I don't get is that you're probably the best augmented soldier and person in the world. They can take entire clips of shotgun shells but you, even with maximum damage resistance, still die really easily. Plus the battles were just poorly designed, even if the game wasn't so multifaceted as it is. The first boss literally just walks around and shoots you and you shoot back. The second boss just goes invisible and you have to find her or just outrun her when she attacks you. The third boss is just the second boss but he throws grenades now.

I didn't use really any weapons that didn't use bullets. I kept with the Shotgun, Combat Rifle, Pistol, Revolver, and Heavy Rifle for most of the game. I really didn't even need to kill much in the final confrontation anyway. I just punched through a wall, hid there, and waited for the guys to come at me and I either double stunned them or just blew them up with my shotgun. I didn't even worry about the turrets or robots.

I can't speak much of the original Deus Ex games since I never really played them. Maybe once I get a more gaming oriented computer I'll apply the HD patch and give them a whirl but they never really interested me. It looks like something that could really use a remake.

Also, I didn't purchase it, I actually just borrowed it.

Just a footnote to what was already said about the bosses - I expected a bit more hand-to-hand combat. Clash of augmented men and women, aww yeah!

Their weapons are overpowered, I would greatly prefere if their powerlevel was auto-adjusted to the skill of the player rather than making two-three shot killers completely overpowering the player if the player decides to engage them differently then they were designed to be engaged...

But...!

Apparently The Missing Link DLC adresses this issue, adds some fixes to the existing bosses and adds another additional boss. Something I'm going to waste some time on, mmm-hmm. ;)

Seems kinda annoying for a fundamental flaw of the game is only fixable by purchasing DLC. I'd expect a patch for the bosses for free and then the Missing Link's additional content to be DLC, not bundled together.

I probably won't bother with The Missing Link since I only have the game on-loan from a friend and I'm usually not one for standard story DLC.

*cought* PC Master Race *cough* The port where corsairs dwell *cough* it can be free if you imagine it is.
