Gamers should root for the Switch not bash it

I've been on the forums lately some of the hate from viral marketers against the Switch are being echoed. Mostly targeted against the Switch's graphics and launch lineup. I'm not saying that we should praise Nintendo suddenly turn fanboy. However, we shouldn't discount what Nintendo is to gaming and what Nintendo is trying to do with the Switch. Just look at the Switch, it's an entirely different proposition from the PS4 and Xbox One. The Switch will not cannibalize the PS4 and Xbox One market. Therefore, it will expand the gaming console market. That should be good news for gamers because that would mean more games will be available to us. Nintendo is also one of the best game designers out there with talent that have been with them for decades. No gamer should wish for Nintendo to go asunder. You may not be a Mario fan or a Zelda fan but Nintendo just sets a bar for gaming that keeps other developers on their toes. You will also notice that Sony is at their best when they are competing against Nintendo. If you remember the arrogance of Sony when they launched the PS3, you would want a Nintendo to keep them humble. Right now, the PS4 has no real competition because the Xbox One is so far behind. If the Switch fails, we are looking at another Sony monopoly.

Hm, first you say gamers should praise Switch and then you say they shouldn't criticise Nintendo/Switch. Make up your mind.

It's a Nintendo Shield against PlayStation and Xbox.

Nintendo is certainly trying to pump up the Switch to not have another WiiU commercial failure but the terrible launch lineup, overpriced accessories, pay to play online, voice-chat only possible via a smartphone app (looool), the "free" monthly games part of that paid subscription will be nothing more than rentals and so on. There are a lot of valid reasons to criticise the Switch.

Like the WiiU, right?

The early days of Switch aren't looking that great and with Nintendo's history of the Wii and WiiU it makes people think twice before jumping back to the Nintendo ship. So, no. At least not for now.

Agreed. So is Platinum Games.

People who wish that are fanboys. Some are tired of Nintendo making shitty consoles, no third party support and then they just can't bother to stick around with a Nintendo system. You know, people grow.

After all, the PlayStation was given its birth because Nintendo was stubborn so yeah, it's their competitor obviously. And Microsoft's Xbox too as it's a gaming console (some are buying Xbox One S specifically as a 4K Blu-ray Player something that the PS4 Pro is lacking).

Are you serious? Think again. Xbox One is a solid rival to PlayStation. What PlayStation has over Xbox are better exclusives, software/hardware sales. Xbox One has the better online subscription free games and backwards compatibility.

Both - PS and Xbox are for gamers regardless of what you think.

Then Nintendo needs to wake up and look at what gamers want to play and not what kiddies, casuals/familes might want. Nintendo's main target audience are customers within 18-27 and higher. Not kids. Or casuals.

If Nintendo shoots themselves on the foot it's their fault for thinking they can pull another Wii.

Anyhow, from all this I gathered that you're a fanboy who's pretending to be a neutral gamer.
I here your bashing it hard but you have pre-ordered one though, just in case! ;) the only let down that could end the Switch is life span very quickly is the fact its not as powerful enough as the PS4pro or X1 and that means 3rd party software have to spend unnecesary money on porting there games to work with the Switch, which of course they wont do! the actual console itself is very intuative and you cannot compare it with the wiiu or even anywhere near the PS4 or X1, it certainly stands out from the rest in that department!

I mean, as a gamer/Nintendo fan I like the concept of the Switch and its Pro Controller. My main problem are the games they are slim picks and sometimes overpriced so it'll ultimately be another dust collector while it'll get played now and then.

Zelda on the Switch and with the Pro Controller is quite an amazing experience.

I've added to it you beat me :)

But remember that the Switch was created when Iwata was still alive. And his goal was to reinvent the ways of gaming.
Maybe the (possibly?) successor of the Switch will have power in mind, now that Kimishima (that's his name right?) is the president of Nintendo (and if I recall correctly, he is more concentrated on the NES, SNES era, when the slogan of ninty was "Now you're playing with power")
Dont fix what ain't broke.

My problem is as a casual gamer I prefer some of the more grpahically advanced games that come out now a-days such as uncharted or overwatch, but at the same time I also enjoy my Zeldas and mario type games. It's all depending on mood.

As an adult i can't drop £300 each on 2 consoles and then spend £50-£60 per game and spread that between consoles depending on where my mood takes me.

Nintendo need to get with the times and make a console that can compete, seeing as they're releasing it at the same price point anyway. Its a case of best of both worlds for most people now and if you have to settle, people don't want to be tied down to only first party games with no immediate prospect of anything else coming along

If it interests you, buy it.
If it doesn't, don't buy it.

As consumers, this is the only choice that we make, and the only one that matters. Telling people to buy something they're not interested in, regardless of how "innovative" it is, never comes off well. We don't have personal stake in Nintendo's future, so there is no reason for us to take their success or failure personally.

I can speak on the internet, I can wait until a sale happens, I can wait until a release of something interesting happens, I can buy it second hand at a far lower price (I presume that even if they don't care then they still have a CPU key/serial being used by a vastly different email, IP and habits). I agree that purchasing as some kind of consumer solidarity or act of charity is silly in this instance, and most instances, but it is more than a simple binary decision.

There's three things I'm not liking about the switch:
  1. The launch games: Like, one good game to get, the others are either ports or crap. Ya know, Ninty, since Mario Odyssey comes out AT THE END OF THE FUCKING YEAR, why don't you release the console then, so you may also have more games at launch and develop the console more, instead of rushing it out so early 'cause you want $$$?
  2. The paid online: Now, wait out. I'm not saying I hate paid online. Well, actually, I do, since I'm stingy with money, but, if the online services are actually worth the price, then I can tolerate it. But, since it's Nintendo were talking about, and seeing that for them the word "online" does not seem to exist in their minds, I have a strong hunch that their online services will still be crap.
  3. The motion controls: It seemed at first that Nintendo actually decided to do away with motion controls, which, to be honest, I actually liked. While I don't hate motion controls, lots and lots of game developers decide to use them for all the wrong reasons (wanna open that door? WAGGLE THAT CONTROLLER, YOU FUCK), and I hate that. They're also unprecise most of the time, also something I hate too.
