Leaving forever!!! :(

And other dramatic threads like this should be avoided. Im not having a dig at anyone as I have done it myself, its easy to get frustrated and mad over the internet.

But at the end of the day this place isnt a job and no one is keeping you here, you can come and go as you please! Why take the forum so seriously? Theres too much drama here lately, and although it keeps things interesting, at the end of the day the drama comes through someone being upset and pissed off. Let me ask you, why get so emotional over this place? If you have a falling out at school, work, with your parents or other loved ones, you dont leave them forever!

If you do want to leave forever or quit its a sad thing, but can you really say that your never going to come to GBAtemp again to check whats new in the world of gaming? And you are never going to speak to the friends you made here ever again? When your bored online are you not going to come here ever again to kill an hour or two?

Even lurking here after being an active member for ages is bullshit, you made hundreds of posts had a laugh with people, helped or were helped by others here. But you got pissed off, or maybe this place is not as great as it once was in your eyes. So you decide to just delete your avatar sig and friends list and just lurk every day, like some monk whos taken a vow of silence? Gimme a break!

Like I said Im not directing this to anyone in particular, Im just as guilty of this as anyone. But please people, p1ngy begs you, if you get pissed off, go for a walk, chill out, play a game! Dont go off on a mad rant that you will regret, and then spend the rest of your life lurking in the background like some fucking martyr. And dont go saying you quit without realising what those words actually mean!

Just have fun and relax, this is a gaming forum, it should be about fun! :yaypsp:

Don't even mention suicide, did you hear about that guy in florida who did it? Reading that on the news was sad.
Suicide is not an option, cry and smash you Wii but don't commit that.

What are you talking about? Suicide is always an option!

yeah, but its like choosing elf bowling over chrono trigger, if ya know what i mean.

I agree on some of your points;
  • People should stop taking shit here so seriously. With all the drama here, this could be a Life as an Emo Kid in Highschool Simulator.
  • "I'm leaving" posts are stupid. All it does is make you look like an attention whore. This post makes you look like an attention whore however.
However, I disagree with you saying that active members that are lurking now (which I include myself) is bullshit.
One thing, I don't like being said I'm bullshit. Another is that I believe we hold the right to go into lurking and we have the right whether we disclose our reasons or not.
If other people think it's to incite drama, they're the ones so affected they think it's drama. They should go look at themselves and think about that.

Also, what WeaponXxX said. He knows I understand.

PS: I also have no idea why people thought it'd be a good idea to delete their sigs and avatars when they pretend to leave. What the fuck are you? ScuberSteve?

I think you missed the point..

p1ngy wasn't talking that you have NO right to go lurking, but more like it's a bad/shitty move from you, because you once had great times with people here, enjoying yourselves and entertain/help others, and now all of a sudden, you decide to lurk..
Yeah, I'd say it's a bullshit, because that's pretending you're something that you're not!!
I don't think you did it for drama, I just think it was a bad move you did..and also, why did you remove your graphic identity?
I loved your style, matching sigs and avatars!

p1ngy has point here, you can understand it as you wish, but he made a great blog entry..

[/quote]Right before I had my new job (which is the reason for my hiatus) I was posting less anyway. I'm still having a great time with people here.
Once in awhile I hit up Steam and enjoy a game or two, go to IRC and catch up. I regularly talk to my GBAtemp friends on AIM too (except last month when I was busy.)
Last time I checked it wasn't anyone's duty to be posting here. Though I don't really understood what you meant by pretending blah-blah.
So I don't think going into lurking is bullshit as you guys call it. But hey, that's your opinion.

On the other hand, p1po's point about people having to declare they're finished with this community because it sucks now and bla-blah is indeed bullshit. Though I'm not one to care for drama.

Off-topic: As for my avatar & sig. It's hard to finish 30 or so different avatars just yet so I'm leaving it blank for now. I'm not sure why others are doing it though.

Ahhh, that's quite another story here then! :)

You are absolutely right there, it's different if you're busy, and don't have so much time, but p1ngpong wasn't talking about that either..
It is bullshit to leave this place (or start lurking) over some drama with some staff member or something that happened..It's not your duty to post, but it is a bullshit if you leave or stop posting because you got into flamewar with someone (or something like that, I'm just giving an example)..

Your case isn't anything even similar to what p1ngy is talking about..

What I meant to say about pretending is that you're a social person, you liked talking to the people here and had a great time (from what I saw), and all of a sudden, you're nowhere..You log from time to time, but don't post and you're not even a shade of what you used to be, just because you're angry of someone..
That would be pretending in this case (and I don't thing that actually, happened, I was just making an example) because you would try to "press down" that cheerful side of yours, and just be serious around here..

On the other hand, p1po's point about people having to declare they're finished with this community because it sucks now and bla-blah is indeed bullshit. Though I'm not one to care for drama.
This is very nicely said, I was talking about this :)

As for avatar, why are you doing 30 or so avatars?!
And yes, I miss your graphic expression here, I hope you'll get it soon! ;)

Well like I said this isnt aimed at anyone in particular, and im not criticising anything I havent done myself.

Ive been having a great time here lately, a real laugh. Im really glad I changed my mind. But once in a while I still see someone who joined years ago moaning about how much the temp sucks now. Well you know what, shit changes, you got to expect the community to get fragmented as the popularity of the forum grows. But theres still a core of great members here that will always exist, and give this place a soul.

And Orc I really dont want it to look like im attacking you, I dont know you that well but Ive seen what you do and I like it. But at the end of the day theres hypocrisy in your last two posts. You deleted your graphics, you deleted your friends list, you had comments disabled and you set your status to private. You basically segregated yourself. You didnt need to do that just because you started a new job! Some other people have done it too, I did it as well, so what Im going to say is directed at myself too. Thats bullshit!

But hey your entitled to do whatever you like. Personally Im happy to see you around still.

And Im glad I changed my mind, because I made a bullshit decision that sucked! And im honest enough to admit it! :yaypsp:

DRAMA

I think the main message being sent out here is that if you feel making a "goodbye" thread for us is necessary, the least you could do is explain WHY that is the case. Lately for instance, people seem to exaggerate how the site going "downhill" has lead to their "departure" when in fact (lately) it appears to have been a combination of things that haven't been mentioned. This is shown on a frequent basis where certain members who publically chose to "quit" then decide a couple of weeks later to lurk and soon after post again on a site that they pretty much said wasn't worth their time and effort.

Of course if your reasons for leaving (on a long-term basis) are serious/private then of course you do have the right not to reveal it, but if this only ends up happening for a few weeks/months why bother making a thread in the first page? I don't see why focusing more on your education, or getting a job is something that should be kept secret... this only creates unnecessary drama.

I would rather a substantial poster leaves a "goodbye" topic if they intend to leave or stop viewing the forums. I know it's kind of an attention-whore move, but otherwise we don't know if the person died or whatnot. I appreciate a "bye" whether simple or elaborate, so everyone else can pay their dues as Ducky said.

Wasn't that the day BoneMonkey got b&

GBAtemp is just as good as it was when I registered.

May I present to you a dilemma:
GBA_Temper -> BoneMonkey -> ScuberSteve -> ?
