Quirky customer behaviour

As most of you might know (even Osaka -_-) I've been "working" at an internet cafe for a while now and I've noticed a few things which are weird about my customers.

Firstly, how come they all feel the need to whisper when they want to extend their time? Every single person who runs out of time and needs it extended wave their arms to get my attention and then whisper to me that they want more time... I don't find it annoying, it just seems really weird.

Secondly, people who walk in and leave the door wide open. This annoys the hell out of me and is just plain rude. The door is closed because its freezing outside yet people don't seem to care.

And lastly, general incompetence on a scale which I never expected. It seems that computer illiterate people favour my internet cafe because I get all kinds of people, ranging from those who don't know how to resize a window to people who forget to log off from whatever they're logged into (e-mail, facebook, IM) and then come to me to complain when their account has been vandalized.

I guess the last group of people is to be expected in any kind of service-based job but it can't hurt to hope I won't have to deal with people like that as much as I do...

Because they're probably surfing on pr0n sites :creep:

Put up notices saying people should log out, that should decrease complaints. Simple enough as well!
As for whispering when they want more time, that's kinda weird, I agree. Maybe they feel embarrassed keeping people waiting?
I hate using Internet Cafes anyway, there's no privacy.

I agree with Trolly. Put up something that says remember to log off! Maybe set it as the background. (Yes, I'm serious. They do that at my school)

As for the door, that's simple. Tell the dumbass to please close the door after he walks in.

But honestly, I think the best solution is for you to quit your job and dedicate yourself to playing L4D with your best friend Diego. :]

How do you manage resist the urge to say ... "HA THAT WILL TEACH YOU!" when your secretly chuckling inside at your best handywork!?

re door issues if they are regulars make them sit closer to the door they will soon get the message!

if not get one of those door closing bars like they have in schools so it closes automatically

when they whisper to you ... SHOUT BACK ... "HOW MANY MINUTES LONGER WOULD YOU LIKE TO BOOK TO VIEW THE REST OF YOUR PORN THEN!" :ha:

You know what. I think I'm actually gonna set it as the background right now. I just finished watching rocknrolla so I don't have anything left to do. Thanks for the idea. =)
As for the quitting of the job. If I didn't have a job I wouldn't have L4d or a 360 in the first place. :teach:

Funny you should mention my handywork. Althhough I never do anything vulgar (thats up to the other customers) I usually put something in to remind them of  how dumb they are.

As for the doors, most people just ignore me asking them to close the door and a few people actually get offended. <My dad is thiinking of renovating so I'll bring that up.

And finally about the porn. I have actually had a few people go on porn in my internetcaff. I've kicked two out for going on porn... idiots.

What do you mean want to extend?

ALL internet cafe here in Indonesia is free-time-based. It means you're free to use tha PC as long as its within the cafe's open hour, and pay based on how long you used the PC, hourly charge... no need to extend anything... do English Internet Cafes use hourly period instead of hourly charge? Like in karaoke places? If so, then I recommend you try our method, it would completely stop guys wanting to extend time. As there's no need for that to begin with

Also, maybe they don't want to annoy other users, why don't you add a local messaging service? Tht would make it easier, just message like MSN and you can ask that you wanna extend, an internet cafe here uses that method, although it didn't work, as there's no need for that to begin with

As for the door, that contraption kobykaan told you works wonders, guaranteed to close the door automatically.... :D

people have come to expect those automatic door closer things in shops

LOL I worked for 5 years teaching I.T. in various suites in my city its pretty much the same kinda thing for porn use something like freeware tool K9 filtering tool link does a pretty good job and is password protected and low on resources :)

we also used WIN ROLLBACK its bit like system restore /Goback etc that resets the system back to original first run state to stop idiots deleting system files etc and wrecking windows :)

we also had a DISCLAIMER box when the computer is first started up with a load of text basically stating that they are accepting our rules regulations etc and that they agree to these rules and regulations when they click Ok to start into windows they are in fact agreeing to the terms and conditions before they even start!

people who work in I.T. think alike that's how I knew that vandalism isnt always the fault of other uses ..as a good I.T. technician/tutor etc always checks a station when people leave it for that very reason to make sure its in order and stuff is logged out correctly emails etc and if they are not they get an EMAIL to themselves reminding them how important security is and how to log off etc !

and for the record we had a backdrop reminding the rules and regulations along with the screensaver set to show health and safety rules etc and posters reminding users to correctly log off /shut down the system along with that we had to check/scan ALL mem sticks and disks before use on the network to avoid contamination from home/other systems!

finally we had BIG BROTHER on each and every machine in the form of WINVNC so we could remote monitor suspect abusers and print evidence to show them later and point out their breach of agreement and following with appropriate banning!

There's your solution... Have kobykaan set up your computers. He obviously know what he's doing.

Put a disclaimer as your background or the logon screen text and make a policy where they can't change the BG

Why? What's wrong with people there? Even delinquents pay the bills around here. 'course, the cafe admin is kinda "streetie" too, maybe that's why though

I've managed 2 different cafes before.
If you think that's quirky/wierd, you haven't seen anything here (although I might think you have, since you WERE here before afterall )

One of the cafes I managed was in a semi-rural area (I was living with one of my relatives there for a while), there were two/three kids who'd try to sneak their way out without paying. I got sick of it with them doing it a lot, I caught one of them while running, and broke (yes, broke) their hand  Nobody dared run away again without paying after that :D
