I just liberated a second iPod from the dreaded shackles of iTunes!
I replaced the 20GB mechanical harddrive with a 128GB SD card, for more storage space and better battery life. That little green board is an adapter. I also installed a fresh new extended 1200mAh battery in it. The final touch was installing Rockbox, an alternative firmware allowing for Drag-&-Drop of my FLAC music files. No more converting music to ALAC in iTunes. (and best of all, NO MORE ITUNES, EVER!!!) The codecs in Rockbox also sound better than Apple's codecs, most notably their okay-ish MP3 codec. (It gets the job done, but it's not very good)
