I bought a light upon release, I seldom use my original model ( or the pro controllers) since getting this, except for the multiplayer shooters.; everyone thinks it's a PSP...

I DO wish they left the ability to switch in though, I just ordered a Genki Covert, dock for my downtime, while I volunteer at a local food bank 3 days a week, they have a huge tv there we can use while waiting for people to show...

I was lucky enough to buy a launch-model Switch a year after release, from a JB Hi-Fi in the city (the closest one to university). I practically never use the portable functionality, since it comes with reduced resolution and inferior sound quality - and being forced to use the shit JoyCons, instead of either a Wii U Pro Controller via Magic-NS dongle or an 8bitdo GamePad.

Oh, and any newer revisions also patched the RCM exploit, so...good luck running Atmosphere and getting a local save data backup option, or cheats and memory editors.

Yeah, I personally see zero value in a Switch Lite.

I love my Lite, it's such a nice console to just throw in a bag and have with you. Hugely recommend Nintendo's Flip Cover Case for it. It's kinda expensive for what it is, but it's slim, light, and gives me the confidence I need to just leave it loose in a bag without something scratching it up.

Fire Emblem is great on the Switch too, I adore the NG+ mechanics they worked into it. Huge recommend on using Hilda on whichever route you do. On my first Golden Dears run, she ended up hitting Level 62 and just ended lives lol

I’m dubious of the Lite—kinda want it for that nice portability, but it’s not THAT much smaller to warrant dropping $200, for me.

Big recommend on Fire Emblem tho. Hilda best girl

@Scarlet I have tried portability a handful of times - taking it to uni, playing it between classes - but...nah. It was a hassle, and provided an inferior and less-enjoyable playing experience, compared to just leaving it at home and reading fanfiction between classes.

Also, Fire Emblem Three Houses is a game I have long since lost all interest in. The first part of the game is practically identical between all three Houses, with only minor differences in what the students say; it takes forever to get to the actually-interesting stuff, the whole reason behind having four different routes. I also cannot stand Hilda's character, manipulating others into doing her work because she's "afraid of disappointing others" or some such; I also hate Edelgard, because she betrays everyone.
I also don't like the increased focus on national religion compared to previous Fire Emblem games (Awakening had the Grimleal's evil cult, and didn't touch much on the Naga religion Ylisseans and the like have; Fates...doesn't exactly have a religion), and artificially limiting player activities through activity points, and only allowing them to do stuff each Sunday, and only having so many Sundays before the end of the month...that was fucking DUMB.

You know what Awakening and Fates Birthright/Revelations offered? Complete freedom in what you want to do - want to level up all the guys you're interested in to around the same level? Can do! Don't want to progress the story? No need to worry! Want to grind Support conversations? That's easy!
NONE of this is really possible with Three Houses' stupid points. Fuck that.

Oh, and all those "it's like Persona!" comments? It's BULLSHIT - Persona allows for so much more freedom than this stupid game. It allows you to explore ALL days of the week (aside from during plot events), instead of just one, and doesn't have shitty points front-and-centre limiting the player. Instead, it uses different time periods (morning, After School/afternoon, evening) to limit daily (not weekly) activities.

Fire Emblem's quite good on 3DS; it's awful on Switch. Do not recommend. Anyway...

Tbf I actually hate the games that let you move freely and grind to your heart's content. I think I mentioned it in my review actually. You lose some of the joy of the game in sacrificing some of the decision making. The best Fire Emblem games to me are the ones that make you ration experience, items, characters even to some extent. It's in those games you have a different experience each time you play if only because of the difficulty of replicating your decisions.

It's also worth saying that in 3H, you can just play on Normal difficulty. You unlock some activities that cost 0 so you can grind to your heart's content. It's a good middleground in my opinion.

One of my favorite runs in 3H was just powerleveing characters on normal trash maps and making them into bizarre classes

I was like is this the way out, oh probably there's a giant exit sign
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
We all should have free health, dental, vision care, and make the college kids pay for the schooling, f that college forgiveness plan our govt doing now, its really not fair for all others in the past that had to pay for they're schooling anyways (like me, with 2 kids I paid to send to college in the past)

I think we should outlaw healthcare entirely because the fact that people can get healthcare today is unfair to those in the past that couldn't

@Sicklyboy - the comparison would be forgiving all medical debt, not making healthcare illegal!
  • cearp @ cearp:
Although I still don't agree, medical debt is rarely a choice, whereas enrolling in university is certainly a choice

  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
College costs, college loans, book prices, the entire thing is predatory, oft touted as essential to a successful life for my generation and the ones since, and completely unaffordable without putting you through an insane financial hardship for literal decades in many situations.
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Many of the same issues can be seen for the insanely predatory healthcare and health insurance system in the US
  • mthrnite @ mthrnite:
    ^this
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
It's important for society to be healthy and educated. If those things can't happen because all of the institutions that prop up those industries make it unattainable for all but a small portion of society, then your society is largely going to be disease ridden, dying, and uneducated in very short order.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Issue is it's too rich of a coperation already with bad sugar diets causing diabetes and killing teeth a new set of teeth around 90k
  • cearp @ cearp:
I agree it's not easy for the average American, let alone the ones below that average. Free / cheaper healthcare is much more important I think than free university education.
Of course like @mthrnite said, why not both. But I doubt both will get solved at once, and surely healthcare is top priority.

And if the concern is that "well we can't trust the government to intervene for this because the government can't do anything right and wastes tons of money" then holy shit push for a better government. I'm certainly trying to. Don't throw your hands up and go "we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas"
