People getting more and more Stupid

Hi everyone, this is probably mostly ranting from my side but then again is it just me or are "many" people getting more and more stupid each year ?

When I was a child with like 8 years I still thougth "wow those adults are all so intelligent" now I know that most people no matter what age are just stupid and can't do anything on their own, especially "older" people tend to know so much less then kids and don't even know how they can get the needed informations. Saying "older" doesn't mean 60+ but I see many people in their 40+ who don't even know how to use google oO

Actually I am working as an IT Supporter 1st and 2nd level (mostly 2nd and even partially 3er as in the company I work for I am doing everything a little bit as long as I can somehow manage to find out how) and damn people are not even able to ask for help properly, not even talking about saying please and thanks or anything.
As an example we have maybe 6 cruxial programms and many many minor ones and I get mails like "the programm is not working please help" .... yeah which program ?
Or stuff like "my folder is gone please get it back again" ... no information about former location, name or how long its gone nothing.
Also best ones are like you tell them "do ..." then they answer "no that won't work so I won't try it" .... then you connect to their PC do exactly what you asked them to do and it works like it should.

In my former Company I even had people asking me thinkgs like "there is a power cord going from my computer to the wallplug but its not plugged in, do I need to plug it in to make my computer work again?" ... like yeah, I guess a Computer needs power.

I also have at least one good friends who asks me EVERYTHING doesn't even need to be related to my job or anything, he even asked me a few times if I could tell him stuff how to improve his own work which is something completely different from what I am doing and stuff I have never done, still as always uncle google helps with this stuff. Or my GF who has a Masters Degree in Economics and Languages, she still asks me to translate some english texts for her sometimes and I also am the one repairing the washing mashine building the shelves and whatever as she can't even read the instructions ....

Somehow I wonder how so many people can survive withouth someone telling them to breath :whip:

Ask a person if they're sure that you can delete everything off off their HDD/SSD, 5 times in a row.
They say yes every time yet come back to you a week later complaining their photos are gone.

YOU JUST AGREED THAT I COULD DELETE EVERYTHING, FIVE FUCKING TIMES!

I fully agree with you mate, It's a miracle how some people survive...

That's actually true. I like to think Germany is Chile back in the 2010s.

The stupidity rate comes up when people can't stop looking at their phones without acting weird. Not only that but people will also repeat what last (communist) movie was seen, and how the people were saved from the damned capitalism. After that is done, you'll see people overall fighting over nothing, social awkwardness all over the place. Pandemics plays an important role here as well, because people got used to being jailed. I am grateful I come from the 90's, even then I know the world is becoming more docile, stupid and lacking basic human skills everyone should have to face global issues currently going on.

I do IT work also, so if you going to do IT work then you going to have to be a lot more patient, true that people ask stupid things and totally clueless about computers, it is your job to explain something technical to someone who is not tech-savvy, the examples you gave are pretty normal, you are there to help them, that why you are employed my friend.

I think people have the tools to be smarter than ever, but they're also more entitled and impatient than ever. Like, even reading basic sentences before jumping to conclusions is too much to ask these days...

it's gotten to the point where people being stupid is totally normal and it's a slight surprise when someone thinks otherwise now

@Hayato213
I really try to be patient and I try to be as nice and slow as possible but after X times I really get angry as people usually want me to understand and solve everything on the fly but most people don't even tend to remember after explaining stuff several times as easy as possible

And its not my job to guess what programm they are using and so on, if they need help with something they either need to be able to show me with a proper screenshot or explain well enough to at least tell me the name of the software But most people don't even know if they are using Windows, Linux or Mac

It's not just older people anymore. There's a growing wave of computer illiterate young people. You would be surprised how many don't even know how to use email, what SD cards are, etc.

The internet has made people WAY more stupid. (Go on TikTok if you need convincing)

It has also stunted my creativity as an artist for the past 17 years or so. It also doesn't help now that there's about two whole generations out know that can't imagine a world without the internet, as they were born into it. Raised by it. And depend on it for every moment of their waking life now. (Sad and pathetic, really...)

Have worked as IT support too, and I know how you feel. It's really hard to be patient and understanding after having to go and plug in someones PC for the 10th time, since they couldn't be bothered to think for 10 seconds, and figure it out themselves.

I also made a wiki, that had detailed solutions for most of the questions I got rather often. I even made a link on every desktop. Didn't have any major impact on the times I got called on the issues described in the wiki.

As far as young people go, you'd expect that they know their way around the devices they use daily. Turns out, for most of them, their knowledge ends at browsing YouTube, Facebook etc. They can't even do basic troubleshooting, not to even mention something harder, like installing a OS(even though it's extremely easy these days, just follow the wizard).

" The internet has made people WAY more stupid"

ehhhh, id argue that the internet just lets us see stupid people, since they have a place where they can meet up now

And if the concern is that "well we can't trust the government to intervene for this because the government can't do anything right and wastes tons of money" then holy shit push for a better government. I'm certainly trying to. Don't throw your hands up and go "we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas"
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Plus technology cost iirc even a water jet drill is 1k per
  • cearp @ cearp:
@K3Nv2 that's crazily expensive. how long will that take to pay off?

Although diet is largely education, people don't need to go to university to learn what's healthy and what's not,
it's the whole country, big corporations and advertising that is to blame for leading most of the population to believe that poptarts and froot loops are healthy to feed a child
  • mthrnite @ mthrnite:
i would think the population knows better but with food deserts and abject poverty, sometimes a poptart gonna have to do.
  • mthrnite @ mthrnite:
it's a big ol complicated world innit

As someone who went through the grade school system in the US some time within the past 30 or so years, not nearly enough is done to promote and educate on how to eat healthy in a way that is feasible to do on a regular basis and also affordable. Eating healthy is, comparatively, fucking expensive. So is eating unhealthy, but in many cases eating unhealthy is more affordable than eating healthy

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Just go gummy, ancientboi would like you better that way anyways, and you save money on toothbrushes/toothpaste
  • cearp @ cearp:
@Sicklyboy I agree, but also it's about self control and realistic thinking. We wouldn't feed a dog soda, so why feed it to ourselves? Eating unhealthy food because it's cheap is one thing, but I'm sure you know people who drink soda routinely when they should be drinking water which is free.
I get it can feel mean to say "no treat sweet beverage for you anymore" but for many people it's just in their way of life.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I drink soda twice out of the week
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Plus decay can start as young as 15 tons of factors

Even sugar free isn't good, as the acid is bad enough.

oh earlier than 15 Ken, babies, children can get decay
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
So dentists give. Us these caps that'll last a few years to fight thrm
