V-Tech Talking Play-by-Play Football

Another great thrift store find. I picked one of these up for $2.99 the other day. It requires 4AA batteries. The controls are a bit stiff and I hate American Football, but how do you pass up a LCD 2-player handheld from 1987. The unit itself is in very good condition. There are a few scratches on the underside and 2 up by the speaker. Overall it looks like it was played with a few times and then bumped around in storage for the next 20 years.

The gameplay is very basic. You start by picking a level of play (1 player level 1 or 2 or 2 player level 1 or 2) and then press the d-pad to start. pushing away from the opposite team starts the game, after which the player can pass (or run?). When you are on defense you have to match up your blinking player with the ball carrier and then press the tackle button. After a touchdown is made you can kick for the extra point. While all of this is going on the game gives a play-by-play of the major moves (start of the play, touchdown, etc) in a perfect 1980s computerized voice.

Overall it was a great find but I would be willing to sell it off in the next few months. Mostly because I find Football to be rather boring, and as a result I don't care for it. But a V-Tech play-by-play hockey or soccer, now that would be awesome at $2.99.

I figured that the end of this entry would be a great place to link back to one of my favorite sites for LCD handheld gaming: http://www.handheldmuseum.com/

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
