Finally gave in and tried Skyrim...

...and I fucking love it! I love shooter games and I really didn't enjoy games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion, so I passed this one up. However, since I've had Skyrim on my hdd just sitting there, I decided to install it. I've been playing for 10 hours now and it is an AMAZING game. A little glitchy, but that's the only downside. The scenery feels different to Oblivion, I don't feel like it's dark all the time. I'm really enjoying it.

I am yet to play it but it looks so much better than Oblivion. I couldn't stand that game at all

You should try installing the latest patches for the game, they've already fixed the main issues and even made it possible for you to marry Lydia.

I have so much love for this game.
Although I can play Fallout 3 for longer, so I enjoy it more.
I feel like I'm the only person ever to enjoy oblivion. Lol.
Costello loves it, lol ;)

Can't say I did. I paid about $20 for my copy of Oblivion and it just gathered dust. Couldn't find anything really fun about it, especially when Fallout 3 had like... guns. And gore. And stuff like that.

Skyrim is excellent though. I put it on my Christmas list as an "Eh, what the hell" type of game and I got it. I started playing it and it was just awesome. Lots to do, very open, you can really choose what you want to be in terms of character, etc.

I must be the only one who thought Skyrim was as boring as Oblivion. Bought it, played it for a few hours, got incredibly bored. At first I did a bunch of sidequests and stuff, but a lot of them to were quite...boring. There were some good ones, but the bad ones outweighed them by a ton. I ended up restarting and playing the main quest only to see how long it would take me...was like, 4 or 5 hours lol

The main quest isn't the focus at all. Before the game was released, Bethesda had a speed run competition and the winner was at like 2 hours. But people will spend hundreds of hours on a single profile. I got 25 hours each for two characters and I've barely done any main story stuff.

And I guess it's just your preference in games. Some people enjoy instant gratification, some people enjoy the long pay off. There's nothing wrong with either but Skyrim just gives you a feeling of accomplishment when you complete almost every fathomable, non-infinite sidequest and get massively powerful, while an instant gratification game makes you feel accomplished by giving you almost instant power (like God of War).

I enjoy both personally but I don't know if this is the type of gamer you are at all.

Meh, I have my tastes.

My first character playtime was around 10 hours, so it's not like I only did a little sidequests or anything, just felt like...like there was too much to do in the game. I have a cousin who's spent at least 300 hours in the game and I just can't see myself ever putting that much effort into a game. In fact, I'm pretty sure the only game I've ever gotten more than 30 hours of was Pokemon...lol.

I know people who feel the same way, though, so I don't think it's just me. I suppose my taste in games is fluctuating as well. I bet if you look back on some of my earlier posts you'll find my tastes have changed significantly. Meh, maybe I'm just bi-polar

The reason I like open world games like Skyrim, is exactly for that reason, I mean... there's just so much to explore, you may have maxed out your levels and stuff, but there will always be things you can so, I love having freedom in games, since the more freedom a game has, the more realistic it looks to me (not in the sense of real world, but more in the sense of human nature and all that stuff), since people won't just things one way (the chance of stealing but being a good guy, stealing but being also a murderer, just killing people at random not caring for their valuables, be a goody two shoes that doesnt steal or kill for no reason, etc.).

The problem with Oblivion is that it feels too empty.
