I got evacuated

Unexpected first night in new house. Cats not too happy but luckily we had gotten cat carriers from an earlier scare so were ready to go. Went to shops and bought some bread and milk to eat in the morning and cat litter and tray and luckily sister had a spare bar fridge I could borrow. It is like camping :) But hopefully not permanent and old house will survive the night. Have a lot of sentimental things I wouldn't want to lose :(

Edit 31 January:
Could lose house tomorrow. Have been packing in the last few days and have a moving truck tomorrow morning so fingers crossed I am out in time.

Edit 1 February
It is more than twice as big now but mainly burning south rather than north thanks to firies efforts to save the city and the village of Tharwa.
It has destroyed properties in villages along the highway.
It is very, very frightening.
I managed to get most of my stuff moved out though which is good. Still hope I don't lose the house.

Yikes. Stay safe alright!

And give the cats some snuggles, they really could use some from what it sounds like (plus snuggling with cats is fun).

Dang that’s bad, hope for the best for you and everyone around it.

Here in the part of Melbourne I live in, the worst we’ve had so far is days where it looks like it’s foggy but it’s smoke, and you can smell it and all. Some parts have had really bad bushfires but not where I am.

I’ve seen videos of how thick the smoke has been in Canberra and now the fires, hope for the best and hopefully this wakes the government up (since it’s close to Parliament House)

Why this happen, I feel so sorry..., how long this last? Poor critters and landscape, poor quokkas. :( We all should be there to stop the fire. I hope rain will come soon.

We're going to get the house packed up professionally so we don't lose anything if the fire starts moving towards us again in the coming few days. Expensive but don't have the luxury of time anymore!

The bit about disaster tourism here https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2020-01-29/canberra-not-out-of-woods-from-namadgi-fire-as-heat-wave-looms/ was interesting. As I was leaving yesterday it was quite eerie how I kept passing people parked by the side of the road looking behind me, some with binoculars and many people with cameras and phones. Each of them lit up pink and orange by the smoke-filled sky.

D
Those pictures look truly horrifying ;O; It'd be great if you could have gotten some of the rain we're getting in Queensland, since it's already starting to flood again in some areas.

They need to build some kind of huge underground pipework to funnel water from places that have too much to places that have too little!
Floods are horrible, hope you don't get affected

It hits home quite similar. We have had a lot of intentional fire across the V Region since Chilean "crisis". Stay safe and minimize risk!

Hello @Quantumcat

You mabye now,I am a positive "Guy"......most of the time...

Moments ago I see this on our local News Site:
https://orf.at/stories/3152896/

I never imagined an "out of control" Situation like this......

I am so sorry for this.....this brutal and relentless destruction....
....frankly it brings tears to my Eyes

All caused by ...ourself.

I pray for you and all your People in your Country....
I can not say why this special Situation makes me so.....sad and angry at the same time ....
Maybe the to watch helplessly how everything is destroyed....

And I also have my ps3

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea ps3 is a beast still to today compared to most "sticks"
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
If you just want pi for emulation no point when Anbernic releases new shit every two seconds
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
What's really cool about Pi's tho is you can have multiple SD cards with different OS on each SD card and change from say a gaming machine to a full fledged pc if wanted
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Plus all bios are set up and usually includes at least 128gbs or 64
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah but if your main goal is just to play n64 and GameCube you can save about $50 and have the portability option
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
True, but on 2 monitors at 4k. Its just want you want really, to each they own.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
For a kids aspect Anbernic would be the better option they'd probably melt over the price on a good 4k display
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
For that texasroo guy, I'd recommend the Spell and speak as his first system.
    +1
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
So they buy a pi5 kit for about $150 and say a 28" 4k display probably looking around $400 total
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They'll be getting in the territory of portable Pcs anyway
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Again you get what you pay for, its like buying a S series for $300 but its only 1440p native, if you want true 4k, gotta get the X model for $500. But yea you right, when moms buying it anyways, you gotta stay cheap.
