Wow has it been that long? Came into this scene 8 years ago (the point where I had the Nintendo DS just so I could play Panzer Tactics which made me wait till 2007 to get it).
Here it is post Ps4 and X-Boneheaded launches of 2013 (you might detect that I think the average X-Box One purchaser is not to be trusted with sharp objects).
I am not saying the PS4 is the best thing of the year. I have a PS3 and it is currently stored as I have little need of it. What with the desktop being told to sit beside the TV and try to make itself look useful. It has the spare externals hooked to it and thus my original need of the PS3 as a means to an end for media, has diminished.
But I have a few games I like on it. It's easy enough to plug in and snitch the hdmi cable if I get an urge.
The PS4 simply doesn't seem to be a device I need in my life. But, it likely is the better of the two devices. And after hearing of the technical issues of the X-Box One, I have to feel a sort of pity for the fans that simply can't seem to learn.
The Nintendo DSi XL has held in there for me regardless of my trying to demote it. But the truth is inescapable. 15 minutes playing with it means a 45 minute wait while my focus goes back to normal. I am not saying it is bad for the eyes, my eyes are 52 years old though.
But it sucks the fun out of using it when I consider the end result.
Soooooo I can see it soon appearing on sale on Kijiji with the aid of my buddy who knows how to work that site. Up along with the games, of which I have something like about 12, and the Acekard, and 2 yet still working just fine R4 cards (yes the old original good ones). And 3 perfectly fine 2 gig micro sd cards. The games all have original cases manuals etc.
I will likely be casually finding a means to mention I have access to a curious stash of 'back up files' of quite a few hundreds of other games (of which I have yet to ever get around to playing comically).
Not sure what my DSi XL and games is worth, but hey, even a bit of cash is better than nothing. Otherwise, it will likely get stuck in a drawer. I have wracked my brains thinking of a family member that might want it (young un that is) but, well all of my nieces and nephews have insisted on growing up
In the realm of computer wargaming, I have stuuuuuuuupidly refused to stop buying them. Oh if I could only sell some of them. Recently though picked up Computer World In Flames. Google that if you want to discover the ultimate indulgence in wargaming. Trust me, you will have never seen anything like it. Comes with a 9 foot by 21 foot map (yes I meant 9 feet high and 21 feet long). It's more than one map panel of course. I took a pass on the map though, it was an optional purchase (and at 89 bucks, you have to really want something to pay that for it). Man the books though are gorgeous.
But the real news for me is the field of tablet wargaming.
Today, the adult gamer, they have no reason to care what is being made for the Sony whatever or the Nintendo whatamacallit. Any game you can play on a hand held they have brought to the tablet market. And for wargames, we are talking games like Battle Academy for iOS or Panzer Campaigns for Android. These are old school wargames, not the Call of Duty shooter stuff. And there are plenty of others too for both formats. Not to mention all the non game things the devices can do. My Asus Transformer often pretends to be a TV for me while I make a model at my desk. I carry around a Nexus 7 in my purse routinely though. The 10 inch Asus Transformer while a better size to use, is also bigger than most of my purses
I was sure big on championing the DS for wargaming when it came out. I had no idea how quickly the tablet was going to completely swamp the market.
Yeah tablets lack 'controllers' that the and held game toys use. So what, they have BG screens, no not big 3 inch screens, I'm talking BIG screens. Most of these games don't even require more than a pointing finger to play though, so the lack of controllers is often a pointless remark.
But some stuff changes and some stuff never changes.
I still consider GBATemp to be the only seemingly worthwhile place to go and talk 'games' and it is nice the site has covered all the gaming bases for all the devices we like to employ. Hey I wouldn't be wasting my time posting this blog entry if it was totally pointless to do so eh.
I've gone to some of the bigger names in wargaming sites, and looked at their forums, and man talk about stagnant. Well I call stagnant seeing no activity for months at a stretch. Talk about talking to ones self eh. So with the exception of a couple of company sites where I buy the games, there are not too many places to just talk shop on wargaming sites for me.
I've walked out on a tech site I used to frequent. Just too nasty. The moment you include politics, you can forget being friendly.
I have just come to accept, if I reeeeaally want to blather on about games, and expect anyone to give a damn at all about what I might say, might as well say it here, and if no one cares, oh well
