Why you wouldnt want a an employee working his a$$ off?

sorry for writing so bad, I'm bored as fcuk.

since there is no copyright in Iran, there is no game indusrty in my country and a dying software industry.
there is this web development company who started making a game and they release a tech demo (www.soshiantgame.com) and we saw it at an exhibition and we went on their office to join them (I abandoned my indie project for them) there was 20 days that they told us do this, do that, etc and I was learning the Engine they worked with and C++ and after that he emailed me to go there part time from 5pm to like 9pm, I even told him that I dont want money and my whole time is free and I can be there for 24/7 but he didnt reply.

But I went there 24/7 for 5 days and worked my a$$ off, I went there before anyone and left at 9 or 10pm and I was glued to my monitor, I never ranted, never asked for anything (not even stability that if this company is for real), never asked for a computer (brought my laptop), never even asked for a desk, he didnt greet us to others so we could know their names, nothing, their lead programmer gave me a task first that and I was working hard to get it done. I even told him in one of interview days that I can leave my Army service (which I will be punished for 3 months penalty, means that I have to go 3 months more if I dont go as planned) and told him that I'm so dedicated but last night after a normal day job, he emailed me that please set ur time so you can come at the office on even days from 5pm.

so, the question is, why.
why he doesnt want someone who doesnt want money/doest want even a desk, uses crappiest chair of them (its broken and I'm falling off of it), never rants, brings his own lunch, works twice as others (game dev team comes at 5pm but I go there from 9am), never bothered or disturbed any colleges, accepted working on one of hardest tasks of their game, behaves most politely of them all.

Why do u think he wants me this way? going there 15 days a week is next to nothing, even with going there 12hours a day for 5 days already, it was hard coming up with the team who worked on the game for 6 months already and he is cutting me back.

I emailed him once (after one of interviews) that I felt some worryness in u today, if ur problem is money, I dont want any, but he said everything is cool and we would be glad to see u excel everyday.

he told my two other friends to get there for one month test but he didnt mention test in my email and just said going there 3days a week.

why he is like that.

p.s. don't post funny stuff, I'm NOT in the mood for that kind of thing.

well my only guess would be, because you were such a good employee, they didn't appreciate u as they should have. don't be so generous next time.

so what you wouldnt want someone working for free the best he could?
thats my question, I never asked for anything, nothing.

More like he is worrried about your priorities? I mean, if you put the work in front of other things such as your duty towards your country...doesn't that kind of signal a flag? I don't know, I would start getting concerned with why a guy is doing this all day...just seems suspicious and a bit abnormal?(you are willing to do it for free which also adds more towards his suspicion.)

So why he didn't call it off? he knows how I love games and just being there.

If he was suspicious, he could easily say that we will call you for later projects, or something, but he didnt.

It's good to hear you've found somewhere to do this stuff :)

Don't take it personally, it could be many things. The difference between working at home and for a company is that there's a lot of legal stuff going on in the background, including labor laws, the amount of hours you can legally work for them without being paid, I won't pretend to understand any of it specifically. Working without a contract makes things really iffy on both sides, for your protection and the company's. If you get injured in the workplace, who is liable? So many silly little things like that.

Maybe your supervisor needs a day or two in the week to pull together tasks for you to do, or needs some time to get on with his own work instead. Maybe he's worried that by putting in so much it feels like you're taking over their project; the other employees might love their jobs just as much as you do and just work at a slower pace or have other life commitments meaning they can't put in that much time. Or it could even be some legal stuff in the background; maybe their building isn't insured to have so many people working in it at once. Or maybe they're worried that even though you don't mind not being paid now, if the project is a sucess you might slap them with a lawsuit later to claim royalties.

Stop constantly emailing him, you might just end up annoying him which will make it worse. Take a step back, play by the rules for a bit and with any luck he'll come to you with an offer of extra hours later on.

He might as well be trying to chill you down. You don't want any pay and yet youre working your to your fingers? That's what I call DEDICATION dude, but then, he might be worried, you're prioritizing something that won't keep you alive (since it's free).

He's a good man with that side I tell ya

Well, thats pretty sad knowing you did a good effort, devoted your time and all else. And listening to your story.. they are worst. Just prioritize some other things maybe thats the best thing you can do now. Hope youre better today.
