Correction : Mario Kart 8 was released in 2014. Why do people always try to pretend MK8D is an original Switch game ?
You're putting words in my mouth.
It's a release. Nintendo definitely treats the game as a release, otherwise they would have released a new game by now, since we had a Mario Kart game per console since the SNES. But no, we still have a MK8D, no MK9 to be seen. So yes, Nintendo is treating it like it's an original game even tho it's not.
So basically, you are saying they are producing cheaply made DLCs for a port (that, we can agree on) because they can't produce another big title. There's literally no correlation between those 2 arguments. There's no reason for Nintendo not to be able to develop a new title or even to hold onto it if it's completed.
You're talking about Mario Kart Home Circuit as if it's supposed to be a new title or something. It's not even developed by Nintendo EPD (
https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Velan_Studios), it doesn't have much influence on the development schedule of Nintendo games. Even if it had, treating Home Circuit as a mainline game but somehow not MK8D is laughable, as even if it's a port, Nintendo has shown where their priorities are, and it's clearly not towards prototypes of augmented reality games.
They have no resources to waste on producing original games and not releasing them. Especially not such an important game.
And I'm saying they can. So let's leave it at that I guess ? They were still printing money with MK8D, they started doing DLCs to maximize those profits, they know MK9 can wait. If it's not completed already, then it's in development for sure and again, it's not far-fetched to think it could be a launch title for a future platform.
These rumours have been circulating for years now, and nothing happened. And even if Nintendo released a new console, then what ? A new Mario game, then an endless string of Switch/Wii U/Wii/GC re-re-releases ? What's the point ? It's all on Switch already.
It's literally not the same rumors tho. Switch Pro and « New Nintendo Switch » isn't the same really, but that's to be considered, they are rumors and they evolve with time especially when nothing happens.
But hey, there were rumors for a new console, and they released the OLED. Now sure, it wasn't the « Super Switch » some people were calling for, but it was a new revision of the console. So « nothing happened » ? Eh, I mean, it's Nintendo so obv you have to tamper all your fantasies but I wouldn't say nothing happened.
Also, if a « new Nintendo Switch » à la New 3DS ever get released, you'll still be able to play Switch games, so don't worry to much about ports, I guess. Maybe « New » updates to profit from the hardware, I guess.
I'm talking about the recent rumors btw. To me it seems very different from the Switch 2 or Switch Pro people were calling for a few months/years back when they were talking about DLSS and 4K and stuff like that. Really we don't know shit from it, we just know that they probably have something and it makes sense for them to release a new revision.
Somehow they did a shit ton of 3DS consoles, yet when people say they probably will do the same for Switch (and already released Mariko, Lite and OLED)then it's baseless to think they could do another one.
And finally « A new Mario game, then an endless string of re-re-releases » who even talked about that.
