Anyone think it is possible ?
Even if Nintendo has it's own OS ... will an emulator be possible ?
Like a custom BlueStacks type app ?

Possible, but I doubt it. Maybe ports. I don't see the Android market just sitting there on the home screen. If it somehow makes it on there, apps will probably have go through a security check first.

security check
Security ... interesting. Good point.

I know BlackBerry was somehow able to run Android.

I wonder if Nintendo could do it.

I would think it would be curated android apps ... mostly just the popular ones.

Not to mention .... i am getting this visual of Nintendo and Apple having an announcement together about Super Mario Run.

Not sure Apple would be pleased to hear the Switch can run Android games.

Maybe the iPhone and Android can pair with the Switch ?
Maybe the iphone can work as a controller ?

Maybe Nintendo will just release "dumbed down" Switch games for iOS and Android.
Like a way of getting smartphone users to love Nintendo's IP ... and get them to buy their Switch Console.

Super Mario Run is going to the Android too.

If it is there, just don't use it. lol
Well I guess. But it would encourage developers to go for the mobile market! The apps would be cool though. Along with emulators and stuff if we do run android :P

They'd probably have a system in which they approve an app before they release it on their own take on Google Play. So emulators would be near impossible to get through their defenses. Though I doubt Android apps would make it to the switch. Still possible nevertheless.

No. The Switch will not be running Android, and that would cut Nintendo out of the licensing which is a pretty big deal for a hardware manufacturer.

Ports but not the same ones. Nintendo would never allow an Android system that'd allow the user to do as pleased.

It'll be running a proprietary of Android won't it? The Wii U used its own Blu-ray discs than Nintendo paying for the licence to use them to the fullest.

No. Nintendo rolls their own OSes. Also, Android is Linux-based, which has a GNU license and would require Nintendo to publish their changes to it and that certainly won't happen. And Blu Ray is a storage medium which really has no relation to what Nintendo would do with Software. Nintendo also used proprietary DVDs for the Wii and proprietary mini-DVDs for the Gamecube. But their OSes are their own thing.

Thanks. Just hope that NS will be more meatier and complete than the basic Wii/WiiU UIs.

It's because of how similar BBX was to Android. Both are at least somewhat Java based, and I believe there were some other similarities too.
This is no similarity between Blackberry 10 and Android. Blackberry uses a QNX RTOS kernel, while Android uses a linux kernel. Yes, they are both UNIX-like, but that's where the similarity ends as program APIs are way up there and unrelated.

However, BB10 has an Android Runtime decoder in order to convert Android APIs to BB10 APIs. This is analogues to having WINE on a Linux machine. The fact that it runs so seamlessly with only a minor performance overhead is a testament to the power of the BB10 OS.

Sadly, it does not have legal access to the Google Play store making it all moot. And that maybe also helped kill the OS as developers would just do a shitty port of the Android version and not update it. Is a real fucking shame, as after attempting to move on I can not think of a single thing that my current Android phone does better while missing all sorts of useful things like bedside mode and the Phone Calls Only sound profile.

The Switch won't use Android.

It has a huge overhead and not the best RAM usage.

However, the Shield console ran Android (Tegra X1), so there are (tiny) chances of porting Android to the Switch.

I personally don't want to see Android running on the Switch & don't think it will.

Android is made by a well-known NSA collaborator and tax avoider extraordinaire. It is filled with spyware apps and games and copious backdoors, both with the OS itself and the apps and games. The manufacturer has absolutely no regard for your privacy, and in fact benefits from this fact.

Nintendo would be giving Android a wide berth, if they had any sense.
I think they do have some sense.

More than that, I think the royalties they would pay would be higher.

Nintendo are kings of saving yen. You can bet the hardware has gone through the accounting department numerous times to get cost as low as possible.

Erm...you do realise that the developers who want to develop for the mobile market already do so for years, right? I mean...those hundreds of thousands apps on the play store didn't wrote themselves. And with nintendo making (albeit small) steps towards mobile platforms, all gamers can do is gain on an included app store...

...which we obviously won't get. No way that nintendo is going to allow us to just download all sorts of nintendo emulators on their device (here's to hoping that porting will be an easy and cheap process for devs).

When talking about probability, it's IMHO less unlikely that nvidia's shield store will make its way over. This kinds of depends on how different the switch is from the shield.
