Hi, I am interested in learning the emulation capabilities of the Wii and want to save the results for future reference. I thought that I might as well share it on YouTube since I couldn't find what I want.

I am planning on making a video for each emulator that I plan to test out, and I want to test between 20 and 50 games per system. I plan to have the video to be more than 10 minutes long, but not 1 hour long. I also plan on testing the early part of a game and only show between 15 seconds and 60 seconds of pure early gameplay footage per game, for example, I would test walking and getting into random encounters in RPGs instead of just dialogue or playing the opening.

I still have not decided on how many games or how long each game should take. I might start doing it sometime in May, and I might create a new YouTube channel for that and for other gaming/tech related stuff. I am doing this for myself and not for profit.

Do you have any suggestions? If you would like to see a video like that, how long the video do you want it to be and how many games would you like to see?

For starter, I plan to emulate the following: SNES, GBA, SegaCD, and Genesis/Megadrive. For variety, I will probably throw in some NES, GB/GBC, PCEngine, N64, and MasterSystem sometime later.

Here's my possible recommendations of emulators and games you could grab:

For SNES: Snes9x TX for better compatibility, and Snes9x RX for better speed.
Games: Yoshi's Island, Star Fox 1 and 2, Super Mario World, Mario RPG, Final Fantasy III (which it's actually FF6), Donkey Kong Country, Kirby Super Star, Mega Man X1/X2/X3, Super Mario Kart, Stunt Race FX, Zelda: A Link to the Past, EarthBound, Top Gear 1/2/3000, Yoshi's Safari, SunsetRiders, Lethal Enforcers, Earthworm Jim 1/2, and some Satellaview games.

For NES: FCEUX TX.
Games: Kirby's Adventure, Batman: Return of the Joker, Super Mario Bros. 3, R.C. Pro-Am 1/2, Mega Man 2/5/6, Rad Racer, 3-D World Runner, Battletoads, Punch-Out!!, Baseball Stars, Contra, and also some Famicom Disk System games (althrough no disk saving is unfortunate, however you can use savestates for these).

For N64: Not64 in most cases, in case the game don't work here or you want some little better speed, use Wii64 Rice.
Games: Conker's BFD, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Zelda: Majora's Mask, Diddy Kong Racing, GoldenEye 007, Perfect Dark, Rayman 2, Turok 1/2/3, Super Smash Bros., Donkey Kong 64, Kirby 64.

For GBA: mGBA Wii.
Games: Duke Nukem Advance, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Super Mario Advance 1/2/3/4, Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, Sonic Advance 1/2/3, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, WarioWare: Twisted! (but on mGBA Wii you'll need the Wii MotionPlus peripheral or a Wii Remote Plus), Driv3r (aka Driver 3), V-Rally 3, Super Monkey Ball Jr.

For GB/GBC: Visual Boy Advance GX.
Games: Super Mario Land 1/2, Wario Land 1/2/3, Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver/Crystal, Zelda: Link's Awakening, Kirby's Dream Land 1/2, Kirby: Tilt 'n' Tumble, SMB Deluxe, Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons, Shantae, Mario Tennis GBC, Mega Man Xtreme 1/2, Game & Watch Gallery 1/2/3.

For Sega Master System, Game Gear, Genesis, Sega CD: Genesis Plus GX.
Games: Sonic the Hedgehog 1/2 (Master System and Genesis), Sonic 3 (Genesis), Sonic CD, Final Fight CD, Sonic Drift 1/2, Streets of Rage, The Adventures of Batman and Robin (Genesis and Sega CD), Radical Rex (Sega CD, recently it was fixed), Road Rash 1/2/3 (Genesis), Wonder Boy games (Master System), Tails' Adventure (Game Gear), Earthworm Jim: Special Edition (CD), Sonic Triple Trouble (Game Gear), Hang-On (Master System), Fantasy Zone 1/2 (Master System), Virtua Racing (Genesis), Contra: Hard Corps, etc...

For PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 (also CD and SuperGrafx): WiiMednafen, RetroArch (but i'll better avoid latest versions since it introduced too many issues we can handle and i prefer compiling latest cores with older RA).
Games: Bomberman 1/'93/'94/Panic Bomber (CD), Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (CD), Daimakaimura (SuperGrafx), Aldynes (SuperGrafx), Dungeon Explorer 1/2 (CD), Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire (CD), Garou Densetsu 2 (aka Fatal Fury 2) (CD), Street Fighter II Dash: Champion Edition, Bonk's Adventure/Revenge/Big Adventure, Final Lap Twin, Pac-Land, Parasol Stars, Puyo Puyo CD, OutRun, New Adventure Island, Ys Book I & II, Gate of Thunder, Super Star Soldier, Star Parodier, etc...

BONUS:
For Sony PlayStation: WiiStation.
Games: Crash Bandicoot 1/2/3, CTR: Crash Team Racing, Gran Turismo 1/2, Vib-Ribbon, Motor Toon Grand Prix, Rayman, EA Sports F1 2000, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, Spyro the Dragon, Tekken 3, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Resident Evil 1/2/3, Dino Crisis, Time Crisis (supports GunCon), Silent Hill, R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, This is Football 2, Final Fantasy 7, Mega Man 8, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Metal Gear Solid, Parasite Eve 2, Vandal Hearts, Ape Escape, Destruction Derby 1/2, Bomberman World, Bomberman Land, Bomberman Fantasy Race, etc...

Sorry i don't have more ideas for games, but hopefully you can see which games of these would you interest.

Thank you for the list, but I meant advice in making the videos. In all honesty, I will have a very hard time remembering or keeping up with the games in your list. I will probably pick some of the more popular games of the system, and I will try to include the Super FX chip SNES games.

I have created the channel and have not created a video. I plan on creating the video next week. I don't plan on creating videos on a daily or a weekly basis, but I might create one or more videos in the first few weeks.

If anyone is interested, the link to my channel is:

I have tested some games and have recorded some footage. All games run at 60fps with very minor drops in fps to 59fps or 58fps in over 15 minutes of testing, as long as I don't use any filters. Even the harder run to games such as Star Fox and Super Mario World 2 ran with almost no drop frames. Of course, the testing of these games was for most of the games was somewhere around 2 minutes.

I did test some games with multiples filters time and time again. The "TV Mode" filter has no noticeable impact on performance. hq2x has a lot of frame drops and ranges between 45fps and 55fps and can be considered playable with frameskip for some people, but that isn't for me. Scale2x gives a great picture quality and has much less noticeable fps drop when compared to hq2x and is playable with it on regular games.

In my limited testing, I would say that no filters and TV Mode has the most consistent fps, with the Scale2x a bit behind, but the hq2x is way behind them. I have never worked on editing videos, but I will try to edit and upload the video in the next few days.

P.S. I have tried the filters on regular SNES games, but not on the Super FX games.

This is the first time I have used a video editor other than the basic one on my phone or on an old PC. The video isn't perfect, but I hope that the video is helpful or enjoyable to someone.
