  • 8 years ago I bought my og X-Box One. I was excited to play that exclusive game Sunset Overdrive alongside all the exclusives the consoles was going to have that definitely would stay on XBox and not deem my purchase a waste of money.

There was a trade-in campaign that got me the console for €250 by give in return a broken 360. Sweet deal right?

    3 weeks later:

Second "broken" black Wii I buy for parts. Both Wiis are fully functional. Why are people thinking their Wiis are broken? What is happening?

Sometimes people sell things as broken for "No warranty!" reasons.
Maybe they don't have a TV with analog inputs anymore ("Can't test!"). People are decadent and throw away everything. Missing sensor bar (happens frequently) - Wii broken. Scratched disc not loading - Wii broken and so on.

Got a Wii Mini "with broken drive". Optical pickup was stuck (!?). Push. pull. Works.

I bought an Atari 800xl listed as defective, "Powers ON, no signal"...
Turns out it was a PAL machine... in NTSC land, obviously it wouldn't work (without a compatible monitor).
That was a very good deal, it was almost brand new, probably never actually used before I bought it.

@VinsCool They were trying to use it in an old CRT, no? It was lucky not to fry the thing with the different power input.
I played the 3DS for the first time online today. AMA.

@x65943 I've been playing 3DS since its launch, just never online. It's a New 3DS XL btw 😛

@StrayGuitarist Been almost 10 years since I use 3D on always. Before that, the original 3DS, I switched back on forth, depending on the game. The New 3DS was really a step up.

@pustal That's fair. I never got my hands on any of the new consoles, I just have the o3DS. When I first got it in 2013 or so, I had the 3D on most of the time. After I started transition, though, my eyes started to absolutely hate the 3D effect. Apparently that's pretty common. Either way, I bought a 2DS and pretty much just use my 3DS for guests to play Mario Kart 7 with now.

@StrayGuitarist My girlfriend never adjusted to 3D, either in the old or new 3DS, an not in the cinema even (with the exception of the high framerrate Hobbit movies). It's migraine inducing for her. So your mileage my vary but if a New 3DS passes through your hand give it a try for a few minutes at least.

There are days where everything goes to shit... And there are days you find a PS5 on retail, new, at MSRP!

    Today was a good day!

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    but that's a long shot

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
