Review Approach:

I was like hmm I have €20,- should I try it, since I LOVED Ridge Racer 3DS. I was like hmm let's give it a shot and share my opinion with the rest of the world! I was scared that this game would be a fail thanks to Namco, but it is done pretty well.
Everybody on this world was angry on Namco Bandai, they had an announcement... It was Riiiiiiidge Raaaacer! I was YEAH! :D Then I heard it was for Playstation Vita YAY!!!!! :D Then they've said something I hated, the game would be DLC based, you can buy this game damn cheap but you'll pay the full price when you want more Ridge Racer. The games starts with only 5 cars and 3 tracks.(6 tracks if mirror is included) Also the game has a weak single player option set.
What kind of game is this? Is a classic Ridge Racer or a Ridge Racer Unbounded like game? It is a classic Ridge Racer game!(*phew*) I didn't like Ridge Racer Unbounded that much personally. But back on course, this game can be bought for a budget price since the Vita launch! Yeah! Budget games love! It only has 3 courses and 5 cars... And the rest is PAID DLC. But yeah in this review I'll be concentrating on the stuff included with the game when you start playing for the first time in your life. When you start a new game you can choose between 4 clubs or teams.
  • Circlite Racing(I want to go back to this team)
  • Trianchelor Aliance(I am currently in this team)
  • Squaris GP
  • Something with the cross(forgotten the name)

It's Ridgeeeee Raaaaacer!

It does not make a difference which one of the teams you choose, since it does not affect the gameplay at all. After signing with your desired team you can get started! Let's go to team vision first to watch today's mission but wait this menu, how do I navigate? Swipe around! And there we go, at this the point the game fails, the menu looks awesome but navigating trough it is SHIT. It is nearly impossible to select a course on a normal way... But you'll get used to it.

(the menu...)

Into the racing, you have a few options to select from if you want to control your car: different button lay-outs and manual, back-pad or automatic transmission. If we look at transmission, the back touch pad can be used, hey! A new thing, let's give it a shot! *one race later* *sigh* I prefer buttons! But there a lot of options for steering your car, that's nice! Oh and before I forgot mentioning, try manual shifting, it'll make the game more fun! The gameplay is like an old-school Ridge Racer game, it feels solid and plays and steers great. Drifting feels awesome and winning feels even better! I can't complain on one though.

(so shiny <3)

(3... 2... 1... go!!)

Let's get back to the menu, which is hard to navigate, I am going to sum all the racing-modes for you.
  1. Spot Racing(Solo racing, free racing, whatever, single player)
  2. Time Trial(Should explain itself, single player)
  3. World Race(Includes ghost racing, online and AD HOC, multi player)
  4. Secret mode unlocked trough something in multi player(single player mode, very simple and short.
As you see the options you get are very, very, very limited! I miss:
A: Career Mode
B: A menu where you can listen to your collected songs

This game seems to be concentrated on online while 3G is very limited as well. And if you play online it plays great!(Some bugs are in there but every game has that.)

I've nothing more to mention, except that there is a lot of FREE MUSIC DLC.

So before we go to the scoring, let me do my short conclusion!

The game feels and looks solid, there is pretty much to do if you buy any DLC for it. The game feels to much concentrated on multi player though and I feel forced to watch that stupid Team Vision every day again.

Verdict

What I Liked ...
  • Great visuals
  • Lot of potential
  • Awesome music(FREE MUSIC!)
  • Stable online
What I Didn't Like ...
  • Some framerate problems can occur.(Very rare)
  • Very limited off-line options
  • No career mode
  • Paid DLC, they could've made this game a tad more expensive with all DLC in it.
8
Gameplay
Game controls great, I don't have much to complain here
7
Presentation
Menu is shiny but confusing visuals look stunning good and cars are beautiful
4
Lasting Appeal
It lasts 30 hours for a fan. Maybe 10 hours for a non Ridge Racer fan. I miss a lot of single player modes.
7.5
out of 10

Overall

It is great game for fans who'd like to pay some more for some DLC which is pretty cheap and fans who love online because solo options are worthless

Nice review! After reading it again this morning (I read it when it was first posted too) I purchased the game this afternoon as I really wanted something new to play.
I downloaded the ultimate edition and am finding it a great entry in the RR series and it really shows off Vita's power. I should have got it sooner as my Vita has just been gathering dust (the novelty of FFVII on the OLED didn't last long lol) but I was put off by message board posts saying the retail isn't the full game etc.

Reviews

  1. The same hardware in a new and exciting form factor, we see if this modern age SP can live up to the hype.

  2. A seemingly-small iteration on the already-great A7, we check out Geekom's A8 Mini PC!

  3. Recently released is Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, one of the few Xbox Series S/X console exclusives and first-party Xbox titles. Is it the type of exclusive that the console has been waiting for?

  4. Astor, a young Diokek warrior, must journey across Gliese to solve the mysterious disappearance of his creators.

  5. PSVR2 comfort is imperative to keep you playing for longer!
