I created a card for family. The family may have inserted a card with an out of date firmware in a new 3DS. The card is freezing on a blank white screen when it is started with or without a MicroSD card. Is this problem related to the potential 3DS issue? I have DS lites that can be used to update the card's firmware if that would actually help it.
You should be able to swap+reflash your ak2i. Since you mention a "family card," I assume you already have a flashcart for yourself (that hopefully works). Place the updater on the working cart, run it on the working cart, and swap to your bricked cart when prompted to do so.
