So I have decided to relocate to Mexico and start a new life there, I won't be heading there so soon.
I plan on joining the military and transferring over to special forces.

The one thing that becomes a problem is that in every division of the special forces whether it may be Airmobile Special Forces, Airmobile High Command Special Forces or Amphibious Special Forces. They all require me to jump out of an airplane!

I am really terrified of heights, don't let me get started on roller-coasters. lol

So now I'm deciding to go along with the Special Forces idea or to go on becoming a Federal Police (equivalent to SWAT) which is fine.

Anyhow are U afraid of heights?

Kinda like this ^, even though I like cats. I have "fear" of ladders, high buildings, etc. Curiously, I think I would enjoy jumping out of a plane (maybe because I am always jumping and parachuting in the game Just Cause 2).

My fear of heights is dependent on what my feet are standing on.

If I peer over a balcony, thats fine if my feet are on a solid path and there's a blockade of somesort keeping me from going over. I could be 30, 40, 80 feet above ground and be ok.

But put me ontop of a 11 foot ladder and I freak the fuck out.

The highest I've been

For me, it does not matter if I am on something stable and if there is something blocking, it still scares me.

I never like rollercoasters.

I prefer something more free, something I can control, like driving a car on a dangerous road.

The weird thing is I'm not afraid of heights - but of how I actually GET up high

If I go up ladders I'm absolutely scared s***less, break in sweat & have the shakes,
but going up in anything else like an elevator (even those on the outside of building with glass walls), I'm totally at ease

I put it all down to the fact that I had a severe accident when I was VERY young (I had severe concussion that left me temporary blind - & that's enough to scare anyone I guess, luckily I did get my eyesight back)

You guys a brave men, I remember about a year ago at a carnival that was hosted at this park I went to.
Well I was quite embarrassing to say the least, I actually had a tear or two in my eye from riding those kinds of rides that are necessarily a roller coaster because it was a roundabout and had a small steep.

It was only half a foot off the ground.

True story.

I'm such a wuss, kinda my parents fault from not taking me to those types of things.

Actually, I'm not afraid of heights, I like high places and LOVE roller coasters.
I still remember that time I climbed on the roof of my building to feel the breeze... and then
my stupid neighbor saw me and told my mother... yea, good old times, good old times...

The bravest thing I did was going on the Jurassic Park ride.

But I couldn't handle the Simpsons, pathetic I know... I was looking at the ground the whole time.

I am a huge wimp when it comes to heights. I cannot stand rollercoasters! I cannot stand going up huge towers even (seriously, I wimped out of going on top of the Wallace Monument)
I went on a rollercoaster which wasn't that high once, it had a vertical drop though and it scared me a LOT. The picture it took was of everyone else laughing/screaming while I sat there with my eyes wide in shock and my mouth held tight closed.
The highest I've ever been is probably Sydney Tower, which I only got up to the top of because its an enclosed elevator. I still didn't like it all that much when we were up the top and spent most of my time near the middle of the tower rather than the edge.

I'm afraid of heights, but it depends on the situation.
If I'm in a safe enclosed area then I'm fine.
But if I'm on a mountain or some high place without any strong stable barriers around me I'll freak out. I also can't stand roller coasters.

Very mild fear for me. Only if theres no barriers/safety equipment in use.

Theres obviously a natural safety mechanism to have some caution at heights, but you should be able to over-ride it with logic if you know for sure that the situation is safe and controlled (like most bridges, rollercoasters etc).

You guys (and probably a lot of people) have a uncontrollable aversion.. however with conditioning/desensitization, I'm sure you could "cure" or reduce the fear.

iMinotauro: Maybe it's not so bad as you think. If you have the strength to force yourself the first few times, the fear will probably reduce as you repeat over time.

Wow, so many people afraid of heights?

I've never had that problem. Like OSW says, if you think logically about how safe the situation you're in is, there's no reason to be afraid.
