Hacking Anyone know howto extract a dol from a wad

Anyone know howto extract a *.dol from a *.wad?
(aka *.dol from 00000001.app)

I've used my best friend google and all the usual tools...
but alas I'm having troubles or I'm just tired and I'm doin something wrong and need a swift kick...

Here's whats goin on....
I'm trying to make an autoboot disc of the HBC w/ out having to have HBC previously installed on the wii...
it boots of the disc... I dumped my wii's filesystem and made a wad and unpacked it....
trying to figure out how to get a dol file outa it... if it's possible...

any help would be much appreciated...

So you want to make a HBC Installer Disc???
BTW WWpacker works great to unpack a .wad and extract the .app files

doesnt it work if you rename the 0000001.app to a *.dol .. i think so as the 0000001.app is just the dol file just try it

Yup, nickasa is right. just rename the *.app

I tried that... But I get an error when I try it in the autoboot disc... I think it might be compressed but thanks for the help all...

sorry to drudge up an old post but i have the answer

when you use wadunpacker.exe to unpack a wad, you get a lot more than just the one .app file, which, in my experience, isn't actually the wad file. every time i've had to extract a dol, it's been the 00000002.app file.

my advice to you is to rename them all to .dol files, starting with 00000001.app, and then send them to the homebrew channel via wifi. when the homebrew starts, you know which .app file it is.

No it isn't. That's useful and relevant information, I for one haven't seen, in my experience, a .dol renamed to anything other than 00000001.app, so that was useful information for me.

well you for one dont know how to use a search button as there are other thread explaining what .app file is what in wads e.g apploader, rom, banner, executable dol etc

my initial post was there was no need in the mega bump to a 2yr old thread
