Best rechargable batteries for the GB Boy Color

As we all know that the GB Boy has some messed up voltage regulator and thus cannot run flashcards like the everdrive or the chinese EDGB+ effortlessly without adjusting some things.

I am willing to invest into some good quality rechargable batteries assuming they will make my GB Boy read those everdrive carts properly.

Would buying some Ni-Zn 1.6v 3800mAh batteries do the job? Or is that too much.
What about the regular 1.2v Ni Mh ones?

Does everything work properly using fresh non-rechargeable alkaline AAs?

We discussed some rechargeable Lithium-ion batteries here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/reviving-batteries-but-better.592274/#post-9545078

They should work just the same as non-rechargeable batteries, as they have some clever circuitry inside converting the ~4V from the LI-ion cell to exactly 1.5V.
