Blizzard Announces Overwatch, a TF2-like Shooter

For the longest time Team Fortress 2 was pretty much unopposed in the market of "comic-like" team-based multiplayer shooters out there - this is about to change with Blizzard's newest IP on its way to a PC near you.​

Blizzard, the company behind blockbuster hits like Diablo, Starcraft and Warcraft, is making its first foray into FPS'es with Overwatch, a shooter they've announced during BlizzCon's opening ceremony. The title has a Pixar-like aesthetic and its state-of-the-art graphics are fantastic eyecandy to behold.​

Overwatch is already playable, it currently features four classes and is supposed to expand over time. When asked whether the game is free-to-play and whether it will make its way to consoles, Blizzard representatives responded with an open-ended "maybe".

Valve may finally have a worthy opponent in the genre! Who knows, maybe that'll prompt them to invent something more endearing than just hats. ​

Just because something is class-based and not overly realistic does not mean it's anything like Team Fortress 2. Having looked at the gameplay trailer I'd rather say that it looks more like Unreal Tournament but class-based.

It's probably not something I'll ever play unless it magically runs on my Intel HD laptop and friends convince me to play multiplayer, but it doesn't look bad at all. The graphics are really nice too.

Everyone's ragging on this game, because honestly, it does look like a TF2 clone. I doubt it'll do as well as TF2 has (And still is!).

so Blizzard has finally thrown its hat into the ring in the Team Fortress 2 like game.

Well, I'm all hyped for this game. I've tried Heroes of the Storm and I'm not a fan of it.
This one looks interesting. I'd love to get in on the beta soon.

I welcome the additional competition, especially if Overwatch becomes free-to-play.

TF2 is a classic, and possibly the only retail game (I bought it back when it had a price tag) I'm still playing from release day till today (7 years)

I almost read Overstrike instead of Overwatch.
Interesting to see Blizzard trying out a FPS game. I wonder if they gonna try a more casual approach like they did with Heroes of the Storm.
