Hacking Can't update the firmware

Hey everyone, long time no see.
My friend has an interesting problem with his Switch. He is currently on FW 10.2.0. And he can't update it no matter what he tries.

Trying normal System Update via Nintendo servers gives him: "Error Code 2002-0038, Not enough free space in the save destination".
Trying daybreak, he gets: "Failed to prepare update. Result 0x00004c02"

What he tried to fix it:
4 different SD cards (all of them as fat32 and exfat)
Format the switch (still says "not enough space"). Both his SD and eMMC are totally empty.
Launching daybreak in apple and app mode.
EDIT: Multiple different firmwares from different sources. Daybreak always said that they were ok.

But no matter what, it just won't let him update the Switch.
Guys, do you have any idea what the problem might be?

Where your friend get the update from, try a different source I guess maybe like darthsternie

Oh forgot to say. He tried multiple different firmware from multiple different sources. Daybreak always said that it was ok.

Yep. It just stops towards the end and hangs.

Got the same thing (as far as he remembers). He's going to try it again tomorrow, but I doubt it will work.

He does not have one (what a shocker, I know).
Anyways, here is an update. He tried creating emuMMC and updating that. He gets the same error. So what the hell went wrong here?!? We are both absolutely lost...

Update: After all, he rebuild his NAND (stock 11.0.1), and then he was able to update
