Whats this new news about no more emulators? If you buy an SX now how do you get full access again? With that $20 dev mode or are emulators canned from there as well?

Why would they remove them from one option and not the other? Also can you just say you're a dev or do you need to "prove" it somehow?

yeah, it's $20, emulators still work there as I've tested it, and I'm pretty sure you must be signed into live to use apps in dev mode iirc. I think they didn't want you to have more access to the file system through retail mode. that would be the most likely reason. and, you do not have to prove you're a dev.

Phew! I don't own one but wanted to get one eventually for the emulators. Cheaper than a similar spec PC and far more user friendly.

Do you know the reason why they got rid of emulators on retail now? Just the file system seems a bit post hoc?

it's anyone's guess. they've always hated them on retail as they get removed within a day usually and the dev license for the person who uploaded them gets revoked.

That makes sense. I havent kept up with the development beyond a quick look now and then. It looks really cool though, very much like the OG Xbox scene in terms of fine tuned emulation.
it's possible the 360 emulator is what pissed off Microsoft, but they did allow people to keep the later 360 games from gold, even if you cancelled your subscription, so it may not have been that big a deal for them.

I thought it was very cool of them to allow it. Finally the Xbox had games, even if they were other platforms via emulation.

best thing about the system is bc. the 360 and ps3 library is very similar, and I've bought things like sonic 4, sonic adventures 1 and 2, hydrothunder, braid, lords of shadow 1 and 2, final fantasy xiii in 4k, etc.

yes, several are upscaled. I don't know which ones, but I do know that final fantasy xiii is in 4k at full speed.

btw, though I like the ps5 more, based on raw numbers, I'm pretty sure the series x is more powerful. it even says 8k on the box, but who knows the fps then.
