You know, don't trust any politician in Argentina, even when they say they are not politicians.
They all go full on theatrics during campaign, this one decided to play the role of a anti-communist mad-man with a chainsaw.
It is just a character. It's always just a character.
In the end they go into the government and they are always the same type of incompetent thief without any values that tries to pocket every dime they can, and help their friends' companies take a part of the pie also. All of them corrupt.
The Macri government, incompetent assholes that took an enormous debt from the IMF and wasted all this money (probably into their pockets) and kicked an economy that was already lying on the floor into an even worse condition.
The Kirchnerist governments, incompetent assholes
that created the biggest rift in Argentine society since the dictatorship, their government took quite a fascist approach by threatening companies and opposition, took an enormous debt from China and wasted all of it (probably into their pockets) destroying an economy that had barely recovered. To be honest the 2008 crisis hit them and this didn't help them. Probably the worst government since democracy made a comeback... And if you look at their last term, the Alberto Fernandez term, this is a new achievement in incompetence; the economy completely destroyed by them.
The De La Rua government, another group of incompetents that were not able to handle the precarious state of the economy and let it fall into the abyss.
The Menem government, half incompetent, to be honest it did some things well and a lot of them not-so-well, they had to deal with the hyperinflation from Alfonsin and they at first achieved it; at a high cost; it was demagogic and a bit fascist like all Peronist governments, it promised the sun and pocketed all the money that would be needed to get it; also to be honest they had to handle the 1998 oil crisis and this hit South America hard. Anyway, not a good government.
The Alfonsin government, half incompetent, well they had a big task to bring the country back into democracy, I don't believe they did a good job at it, but it was better than nothing, also worst fucking hyperinflation since post WW1 Germany.
The dictatorship before it... fucking murderers, and they also took enormous debt just to keep up their murdering machine going.
... No acceptable government in the last 50 years ...
Some people here talk of the Macri government as if it were worse than the Kirchnerist one... Nah... They all are bullshit. Incompetent thieves, they are not one above the other.
The current one, Milei, well... Some people here make him look as a monster, I don't buy it. It is probably the same shit as before. I would like to see how things move on during the next year, but I expect the sadly usual economic disaster achieved through lies and incompetence, I mean it already is looking like that, specially the incompetence. But I want to have hope, because I would like to see Argentina doing well some fucking day again.
The only authentic monsters were the dictatorship. Every other government afterwards are incompetent thieves, with some little traces of populism and fascism here and there,
but they do not compare to the dictatorship, not at all, this is still democracy, not a good one, but democracy still. Don't let people tell you otherwise, because it would just be a lie.
Also, to whomever here that said that "Argentinians voted him because they wanted far-right". Argentinians voted him because they were disappointed/disgusted with the previous government and there was no other option.
I don't believe he is far-right or even seen by Argentinians as far-right in the "European definition" of far-right (racist/authoritarian/ultranationalist); but actually he is seen as "much-too-the-right" in the sense of minimal state/free market/ultra-liberalism (or in his own words
anarcho-capitalism).
