The UK's first 24-hour television channel dedicated to video games has been announced.

Available through satellite and cable services, Ginx will be targeted towards casual gamers, according to Eurogamer.

As well as featuring gaming reviews, it will also produce shows that look into different verdicts on the medium, which will include opinions from sports stars, bands and members of the armed services.

"The Ginx channel is going to be an evolution rather than an overnight revolution," said CEO Michiel Bakker at Edinburgh Interactive Festival.

"Is it a good TV show to watch people play games? Does that make for good TV? If it does we'll do it. If it doesn't we won't."

It will launch four shows by the end of its first month, and Bakker has admitted that there will be a "healthy level of repeat" to its 24-hour schedule.

Ginx TV has already produced programmes for channels in Spain, South Africa, Israel and the Middle East, as well as GameFace for Bravo.

The channel will be available through Sky and Virgin this November.

I'll give it less than 6 months.

Most "gaming" channels are hardly "gaming" channels. One or two shows are devoted to gaming and the rest of the stuff is usually just typical nerd stuff. Nerd movies, nerd shows, hot women, etc. Not a lot of gaming gets discussed.

Not like it matters, if I wanted to watch stuff that's gaming related I have the entire internet to do that.

We used to have one years ago didn't we? A gaming channel I mean, I remember one of the things on it was like music television where they'd play songs with gameplay footage running instead of music videos. Whatever it was it flopped horribly, and I can see this one going the same way too. I might watch a weekly program or something, but a 24 hour channel is overkill. It's the gaming equivalent of having a dull 24 hour movie interviews channel.

[Edit]After a quick bit of wikipedia-fu, yes we did. They gave up and turned it into a porn channel, lol.

Gaming channel's never seem to work out.
The only gaming channel I know of is G4 and that is mediocre. A 24-hour gaming channel would never work out.

If they come up with a competitive video game show like the old Games World on Sky 1 then I'll watch, specially if they bring back Bob Mills as a host. Oh, and a hints and tips show starring The Games Mistress would go down well as well.
