I'd like to try this out because I heard Mortal Kombat Trilogy runs great on it, and we all know the native PS1 emulator on PS3 has freezing issues with that game. But when I go to start PS3SX on my PS3, it won't even start up; it just gives the following error:
An error occurred during the start operation.
(80010009)

I'm on 4.86.1 HFW (Don't wanna update it, I have my reasons) with PS3HEN v3.2.2. Is there a way I can force PS3SX to work? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I don't care if it's old or just proof of concept anymore, if getting PS3SX to work means no more having to put up with god-forsaken pillarboxing, then I wanna do it. So please help me out and don't just come in and say it's not worth it anymore, because to me it is.
If the EBOOT needs to be resigned (which is probably why it won't work), can you teach me how to do it?

I made a patch for MKT. Just convert it with pop-fe and the fix is automatically applied.

Thanks, but it didn't work 100%.

Little known fact: When you turn Buy-In Screen OFF in the Options Menu and go to play the game, it freezes after the first match. To make sure your patch works, I did what you said and tested the game, once again turning Buy-In Screen OFF. And after the first match, the background showed up but nothing else and the game froze. Sorry.

Besides, there's another reason I wanna use PS3SX: I HATE PILLARBOXING. When you play a PS1 game on a PS3 the normal way, there's always unavoidable black bars on the left and right of the screen. This app is useless because it's too slow, but at least it proves that it's possible to play PS1 games on the PS3 with no pillarboxing.

PS3SX was designed to run on 3.41 CFW, but someone said all you need to do to run it on higher CFW (4.8x) is to resign the PKG. The only problem is I don't know how to do it the right way. Can anyone help me with it?

Hm, didn’t know about this. Thanks. You can swap the ps1_rom.bin (BIOS) in flash to another PS1 BIOS to completely fix this issue. The game’s problem is due to Sony’s “optimizations” to the internal PS3 BIOS, and Midway’s poor coding of this game.

You can get a perfect 4:3 aspect ratio when playing without stretching w/ upscaling on and smoothing off. Pillarboxing aside, why are you wanting to stretch the screen to 16:9? It ruins the aspect ratio either way.

I always stretch my 4x3 media to 16x9, even letterboxed media. I don't mind top and bottom black borders, but I f'n hate left and right borders. That's how I am, and it's a free country. If you don't like it then tough.
