GitLab has taken down the Suyu Nintendo Switch emulator

Suyu-728x410.png

Emulator takedowns continue. Not long after its first release, Suyu emulator has been removed from GitLab via a DMCA takedown. Suyu was a Nintendo Switch emulator forked from Yuzu emulator, which was the high-profile subject of a takedown by Nintendo last month. GitLab deleted Suyu's repository, stating that they'd received a takedown notice for the project. The tongue-in-cheek named emulator still has an official website up, though the Discord is not allowing new members, and the GitLab download page is gone. However, it seems a self-hosted download page is still available.

Imagine if Nintendo was this fast at dealing with other issues.
What... the switch not stable enough for you?

I'm not entirely sure what they expected would happen.
I'm sure some of these forks and clones knew they'd be a target.

The Switch is more stable than my mental health but still lacks any reason to pick it up

Why did people think that making another Yuzu fork was going to revive the emulator...
Because there's no Nintendo code in it and nothing that violates copyright law. This is just GitLab being cowards and refusing to hold firm against a bogus DMCA. Nintendo should not have the power to bully hosting sites in this manner.

I see. I still think that supporting emulators of still released consoles are a bad idea. I'm more mad about Citra then Yuzu/Suyu getting taken down.

I see. From what the people are saying in the sevrer, the DMCA takedown notice might be fake.

Typically I'd agree, if we were talking about a console with modern hardware. Since Nintendo is trying to compete with ninth generation consoles using seventh generation hardware, however, I don't see an issue in emulating Switch for the purposes of improving performance and/or graphical fidelity.

Catch-22 for me. I agree with this sentiment, but I also agree that anything in the current generation of consoles should be off limits, regardless of how poorly it performs, spec-wise.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. And I even agree with you as to improve the experiences of modern switch games. For pirating them though? Do that to the older games. If you're pirating games that still can be bought from the store, then you're not a pirate, you're just someone who wants to get free games

@The Real Jdbye, I thought about that and I have blank DVD's and Blurays but honestly after like 90 songs I just listen to it a couple of hundred times toss it out and burn something else or have like 2-3 CD's. Florida here the heat in the car tends to ruin the CD's after like a few months even commercial pressed ones don't last too long.
