Gaming Grand Theft Auto - ChinaTown Wars

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but here is some new info on the game:

- True GTA game - sandbox gameplay, open-world environment, gritty crime narrative.
- M-rating
- Isometric camera angle
- Cel-shaded polygons w/ black borders
- good touch-screen implementation - "tasteful" minigames, streamlining interface
- UI based on a PDA - hub for email, contacts, map, music player, GPS, stat-tracking
- stats uploaded to Rockstar Social Club website via Wi-Fi
- finger-sized icons
- missions designed for shorter periods of play, arcade quality
- aiming with control pad, auto targeting with R button
- subtle autosteer
- if you fail a mission, you can jump back to the action sequence
- chain gun, flamethrower
- good portion of Liberty City is modeled in the game (different routes than console games)
- no probems with load times, draw-in or frame rate
- lots of pedestrians, cars, etc on screen
- Wanted system - objective is to disable police cars any way possible
- real-time weather effects, 24-hour day/night cycle
- lots of radio stations to listen to (more instrumentals than vocals)
- 800,000 lines of hand-optimized source code (hey, the people like the info, right?)
- no details yet on multiplayer/Wi-Fi features

3D graphics with a camera type mostly meant for 3D gameplay/2D graphics?

i hope someone can camera hack it for proper 3rd person view then.

Sounds interesting and I'm definitely looking forward to it, but I'll reserve judgement for now, as I was really disappointed by the GBA version of GTA.

It 's not the same team working on this on is it?

Apparently it's the same team who worked on GTA 4.

if they make it 3d... it's gonna be very slow
as u read... isometric view but with many things on screen thus perfect framerate
U can see tht sometimes in FFCC it became annoying that the framerate was imperfect at times
It's always necessary to KISS and fun and playable regardless wether the graphics are 3d or not
(KISS - Keep it simple Stupid)

Sounds awesome. I'm thinking the isometric view will be the best of both worlds. Mainly, though, it should eliminate the need to fiddle with a camera during gameplay. Not at all surprised they're going with a cel-shaded look, and it's what I expected, really. Can't wait for my issue of NP to arrive!

How could GTA:A really disappoint you? It's GBA, what did you expect?
I like it. Wish it was more like GTA1 for PS1 though.

Well, it seems it's going to look like a Tony Hawk..I enjoyed those graphics, and hopefully....they'll make bird view as an option (I really doubt it, but I can hope..)

Hmm...well, Tony Hawk was more of a true behind-the-back, third-person perspective. But an isometric view, again, should offer the best of both worlds -- almost bird's-eye but you still maintain the Z-axis. My guess is it will be more similar to Phantom Hourglass, with respect to its gameplay perspective. Isn't that kind of what they did with Max Payne on the GBA, only in 2D?

Just because THAT game was slow in 3D doesn't mean GTA wil lbe slow too

The same Nintendo Power issue with that information has screenshots.. but there are no scans yet :/
