Grandia I and II HD headed to the Switch

IMG_0486.JPG

Nintendo's Switch console is starting to be known for receiving a wide variety of ports of older video games. One of which is the recently announced Grandia series. Gung-Ho will be bringing the 90's classic JRPG franchise to the Nintendo Switch by releasing an HD remaster of the first two games in the series. They'll also be putting Grandia I HD on Steam, to go with the already released Grandia II HD. Grandia I released back in 1997, originally for the Sega Saturn, and made its way to the west in 1999 for the PlayStation 1. The collection will be available this winter.

There's hope for a Xenosaga port.

Didn't this game age horribly tho? Or I'm just mistaking it with another RPG of that era?
I don't know, there were 999999 RPGs in that golden era. Quite sure most of them didn't age so well.
Now regarding if this aged well or not, I think the battle system is still very enjoyable.
Regarding graphics and story, meh. They didn't age well two days after release probably.

I just hope the porting to Switch goes more smoothly than it did to PC. The PC port was a mess when it was first ported to PC, patch after patch...

I can only agree. To be honest, each time I'm thinking about Grandia 1, I automatically have that song in my head :)

I'm fond of the dungeon theme and the deck swabbing mini game :P

In the end, it turned out to be a decent port after all the patches, far better than the 2002 port.

Yeah, it's an okay port now. I'll probably get it on Switch, because of comfyness. Also, it'd be pretty challenging to fuck up a port harder than the PS2 port of Grandia 2, lol.

Even the PS2 port was superior to the 2002 port that Ubisoft made lol, had 44 kHz audio instead of 22 kHz mono  Yeah, it was that bad. My only nitpick on the newer PC port was that there was no battle transition effects, which I thought were cool.

Still have my original copy of G2 for the DC, I also just recently (this year) had a play-through on it. I've never played or owned G1 though. Not sure if its worth it for me to pick this up just for G1. I probably still will though.
