Could someone push me in the right direction for this.

Here's the laydown: Mate had a wii which is chipped and has the homebrew channel/neogamma (I do not know what chip it is, i'm guessing wiikey but how exactly can i confirm?). He accidentally upgraded to firmware 4.2 when it prompt to do so, after he connected to his wifi network. Now, whenever he boots up the wii, he gets this error: "unauthorized device detected". (He is not even able to get to the main menu)

I'm pretty proficient with Wii and Softmodding but i have no idea how to even approach this. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks you

Lol, just posted a topic about same thing.. Ive just encountered someone with this error today that had the same thing happen. 4.1e with homebrew channel, updated to 4.2, connect to wifi and now, whenever he boots up the wii, he gets this error: "unauthorized device detected". He is not even able to get to the main menu either

Ooohhhhh no....

That is BAD! VERY BAD!

You see "Error:003", right?

If so:

The Error 003 is caused by region-changing a Korean Wii, then updating to 4.2.
You guys' Wiis appear to me that they are region-changed Korean Wiis, due to the error you have...

4.2 checks for the Korean common-key, and then does this:
If kkey is found in the Wii, but Wii has been changed to E/U/J, intentionally throw 003 error at user.

There are a few ways to fix it, BUT you NEED some stuff to be already installed BEFORE getting error 003.

You need one of these already installed to fix error 003:
Indiana Pwns savegame (for Wii's current region) already installed
or
cIOSCORP v3.x / DARKCORP already installed (cIOSCORP v1/v2 won't work)

If you have one of these already installed, then I can help you fix it.
But if you don't, then there is no way to fix this error at this time...

...however, your Wii isn't completely bricked per se, you can still set your isos to autoboot, then reburn, then load them via recovery menu with savemiifrii.

Do you guys have one of those 2 things already installed on those Wiis?

Are you sure?
Only region-changed Korean Wiis can ever have error 003...

...unless you intentionally installed the error003-causing IOS70 wad that da_letter_a and myself made a while ago but never told anyone about...

...but you wouldn't have done that, right?

Did you buy it brand new from a reputable well-known chain store?
Or not?
EDIT: saw your other thread regarding where it was purchased...
What is it's serial no? (or at least the first few parts of it?)

I saw your other thread saying you don't have a modchip, so...
In order to see if you have cIOSCORP v3.x (it would be 3.4 or lower, since 3.5+ prevents error 003) installed, just set an ISO to autoboot (change first byte in the file from "R" / "S" to "0"(0x30)), burn, and then try running it via recovery mode.

If it runs, or if the "4.2(xxx)" text disappears, then it has an older cIOSCORP v3.x installed, and you can fix it.

If the disc does not load, and the text stays on screen, thet means the disc is not being read meaning no CORP...

What about your Wii, davidw89?

ok,total noob here so please excuse me if I say something too stupid lol

since it says "unauthorized device detected" can't you just remove the chip somehow and then softmod it so it can still play backups?

Youre excused, now go back to your seat.
