Gaming help updating to windows 7 from vista

I have upgraded my desktop with no problem but I cant get my laptop to update.
The upgrade will freeze on the finale steps were it says transferring device,programs, and files. It gets to 60% and stops I let it sit there for up to 12 hours with no progress.

My laptop passes the upgrade advisor

I am thinking about doing a fresh install, I just was hoping to upgrade so I don't have to install all my programs again
