KyûHEN is a homebrew contest for the PlayStation Vita

Vita means life, and that means the PlayStation Vita lives on, even if fans of the portable console have to do it themselves. As Sony sunsets the PlayStation Store for the PlayStation Vita, a group of three people within the homebrew scene hope to begin a competition to bring attention to the platform. KyûHEN is the work of frangarcj, a contributor to work on the vita3K emulator, 2Old4Gaming, a YouTube channel that covers Vita hacking news, and Samilop, who has written a guide for and worked on various projects regarding the Vita. They're backed by a collection of homebrew and hacking sites, such as Wololo, PSX-Place, and PlayStationHAX, and now GBAtemp would like to showcase their efforts as well.

KyûHEN's competition will span over two months, giving creators time to make two different types of games, either using an existing engine, or one made from the ground up, a utility or plugin, or a port of a pre-existing game from another platform. Currently the prize pool is around $455 total, with donations open for those interested in jump-starting interest in the PlayStation Vita scene. The contest will end on May 27th, after which a small jury will vote on their favorites of the submitted works. The rules are stated below.

1. Developers can submit as many submissions as they want but can only win one prize per category.
2. For games, if they were previously released on another platform like PS4 or Switch, even if it is yours, it must be submitted in the port category. Utility from other homebrew scenes shall remain in the utility category though
3. If the game you want to submit was already released before on the PSVita, it must have been at the state of prototype and being improved to make it a complete game. For utility, the changes should be consequent to the homebrew/plugins which required lot of work.
4. No piracy will be allowed. No use of copyrighted assets is accepted, games must be the author original creation. We do allow the use of generic free assets you can find in unity assets store for example but do note that we will value more games which use hand made assets. As for ports, do not include game files if they are not free to share. Engine made from RE are allowed, but engine made from leaked source of a game engine are not allowed.
5. You must have a paypal account to receive the money.
6. You must include the contest splash screen in the booting process of your homebrew (you can include it as a live area asset Plugins obviously can’t show the splashcreen, instead we will ask you to put a mention of the kyûHEN contest inside your readme in your repo.
7. You can share a public build outside of our website only when we have approved it and already showcased your project on our website
8. If your project is based on an open source project, you must follow the license of the open source project
9. If we catch you cheating, you are automatically banned from the contest.
10. Categories prizes might be subject to slight changes depending on submissions and on the amount collected.
This is the splashscreen that must be used at the boot of your game/homebrew/port:

    I just recently picked up a n64 from a garage sell, and looking to mod it and add a HDMI port to it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/3548173115...044&customid=4f3038da73b61afddf7e5e90f4153856

    I'd like to find a power strip and HDMI selector built in 1 unit, so I can select which game system I want, and will switch to that hdmi, and power on that plug/power supply only, so don't have all game systems powered all the time, but can't find anything like. May just have to make something myself.

    @Xdqwerty, Nice. Which operating system are you installing?
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @SylverReZ, windows 10 and some linux distro like linux mint
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    dualbooth
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    @Xdqwerty, Yeah, I'd recommend having another OS just in-case you want to play games.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    At least Linux doesn't contain spyware than what Windows has.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @SylverReZ, cuz of lag?
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    @Xdqwerty, No. Whenever you use the internet on Windows, Microsoft collects personal data and installs bloatware that isn't necessarily needed, such as Edge.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Speaking of which

    @SylverReZ,
    I recall @impeeza mentioned some trick about not having bloatware when installing windows where you set up your country to "world" or smh like that

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Yes, you can debloat the operating system, but in some cases for me it just reinstalls them.

    @SylverReZ,
    I also recall my brother downloded a "non bloated" version of windows 11 on his pc

  • impeeza @ impeeza:
    @Xdqwerty yes, when you are installing Windows on the first steps you are asked for your current location, you MUST to select «international» so no bloatware is installed, because the bloatware is location based. if this night I have some time I will setup a VM and take screenshots.
