Gaming Looking for a sub 1000 laptop

This won't be for me, but a friend has asked for a suggestion what to look out for. All they'll be doing is your standard computing stuff, only requirement is it must be 14-15 inches and include a webcam. They'll be buying the laptop inside a store (circuit city, best buy, etc).
We both agreed that HP laptop are a no-no (personal experience).

Why? I've had 2 HP's and both work perfect.
