Hi, Capcom recently posted this:
https://www.capcom-support.com/hc/e...-Services-for-Nintendo-3DS-and-Wii-U-Software

Online services (online play and other functionality that makes use of online communication) for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U will come to an end in early April, 2024, and on the softwares affected list they mentioned this save data transfer app as well.

So I wonder... will be still possibile to use the save data transfer utility between Generations on 3ds and Generations Ultimate on the switch after servers will close?
Maybe with pretendo and then making the switch connect to a specific dns server to access the transferred save data?
Or more simply still be able to use the save data transfer utility but locally or completely offline and then we could manually move the converted save into the switch/emulator?

If I remember correctly, its a password system, so there's a chance its all on Capcom's servers, if its the case, they can just keep it running despite Nintendo shutting down their stuff (like PokéBank will still work).
I am really hopeful it could still work with Pretendo and similars or even directly like Pokébank does!

Pretendo don't have Switch stuff, have it? And even when/if they do, they won't have the same save conversion software as whatever its on the server that does it currently. They can do something similar? Probably. People have thought ways of doing it offline https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-transfer-your-mhxx-3ds-save-to-mhgu-on-switch.637578/. Doing it on a server would only take some extra work.
Yeah they don't have Switch stuff atm, but I don't know where the conversion happens to begin with, before uploading the save? Or before downloading it, maybe the app itself does the conversion and it isn't made server-side? (so the server is just used as a cloud to then transfer it into the switch)

Manually move? Not happening ever officially. And if Capcom had plans to change the save moving process to work locally, they would've updated the 3DS app before the closing was looming so close. But as I said before, the internet will find a way.
Yes but it was related to my previous answer if the conversion can be done with that app and it still generates a converted save file I could then move myself totally offline or locally somehow. It all really depends on how this software does work.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
