Hacking New Wii Drive Revision Kills ALL modchips!

Looks like Nintendo has some new tricks up their sleeves. A new drive revision has been found that contains no controller chip whatsoever! So much for all current modchips if this turns out to be widespread.

If you read the article, you can still do a drive swap if nothing else for right now. Expensive? Yes. But Doable.

Beyond that though, it will be hacked like everything else has been. Let's not forget the 82 pages about how the DSi was supposedly flashcard proof.

It says at Wiinewz, that they merged the D1A chip with the drive controller.

Me thinks this might be Nintendos undoing... if they were able to merge the chips, then the true Dev's out there will be able to get to the parts previously unavailable... hopefully...

Might allow 6x backup reading with the softmods, and no need to even hard mod anymore!

Then again, as mentioned, a simple driveswap is still your best bet... pretty sure there are a few devs out there that would love to swap the old drives for one or two of these new buggers to get a crack at it!

Nintendo is starting to do their homework correctly.

But I doubt it will stop the pirates from pirating

i don't think they'll be making it any easier to set the read speed to 6x.
if anything, it's possible they removed the dvd read command from the new drive controller, or blocked it in an updated starlet chip.

If they don't plan to release the DVD-channel anymore that's very probable...
