Hacking Opening New Super Mario Bros. 2 makes so I can't open anything else without a restart

Hello, I acquired a 3DS Yesterday, and hacked it, downloaded some games (6 in total), but something strange is happening that I can't find a fix or workaround for anywhere. Whenever I open Super Mario Bros 2, it all works as intended, or seems like it, but if I close it, and try to open anything else afterwards, I just get a black screen after the Nintendo 3DS logo and need to force restart it to work again. This doesn't happen when I open or close any other game or application, just after I open NSM2 specifically. And it's driving me nuts.

I dimly recall reading about someone else with a similar problem, but it's definitely not something that comes up very often, and there's no obvious solution.

And it's driving me nuts.
If it bothers you that much, why not just, y'know, buy your own legitimate copy?

You jest, but if I can't find a fix or a workaround I probably will try a legitimate copy. Although it would suck to buy it and then see it having the same issue anyway.

I really don't think that would make a difference. There's no difference between a pirated and non-pirated 3DS game except for the DRM.

If you're running sigpatches, there IS no difference - your legitimate ticket is ignored all the same.

There shouldn't be any reason a USA rom doesn't work, 3DS is not region-restricted. There's a chance that maybe your SD has a corruption, unless someone else has any ideas

So far everything's worked except, well, NSMB2, and nintendogs+cats from USA region, which is what got stuck on loading screen, looked it up, other people had the same issue with that game and using a different region than their DS, the Europe one worked well. As for mario, no clue. I could try the USA version just to see if it works, but I'm not very hopeful

EDIT: it's also a brand new SD card, bought a couple days ago specifically for my 3DS. Which I know doesn't guarantee that it's not corrupted, but it makes it fairly unlikely

Thanks for letting me know but you should edit your comment to remove the name of the website (alluding to a roms website by name is against the forum rules.) You should try roms from a different source, there are no issues with region differences with .cia installations. One more thing, about your SD, I hate to say but there is always a chance you bought a fake unless you know for sure it came from a retail store/retail seller. It's more likely than you might assume.

I bought my SD myself from a retail store. Unless you meand DS? Also yeah, Mario is not region related, just tried a US one same issue. Opens fine, but once I close it, if I open anything else black screen. I've gotten more games in the meantime, Zelda and Other mario games and all of them are still working fine without causing any sort of issue

Ok thanks, did you get those games from another source? Also, even if your SD card is totally legit and healthy, the files can become corrupted by various ways, even within the 3DS itself (not just by removing SD from PC without proper ejecting.) For instance, my SD card was corrupted 2 different times, one with homebrew that had a fatal flaw, and once when I erroneously deleted a strange save file from the system menu.

All games came from the same source. I'm aware files can get corrupted but I can't even begin to think how that would've happened here or why, nor how to check for bad files

So, my girlfriend just hacked her 3DS and tried Mario, she had the exact same issue. So it's definitely not my DS or SD card. Most likely some sort of bug with Luma and that mario game specifically, I've since ordered a legit new mario bros 2 copy from amazon, and I'll try that when it arrives.

Update. Got a legit copy. Same issue. So, not SD card, not bad cias, gf has the same issue after hacking her console yesterday so, not a hardware issue either. Guess I just can't play this game without having to restart the console every time. For whatever reason, CFW broke something for this game specifically whether it's a legit copy or not

After looking around some more finally found this.

Guess it's a known issue now. Someone in the comments said it's not luma related but highly doubt it. Anyway, guess it's just some weird bug. People have found a work around by opening a non Homebrewed application or game, like activity logs. That seems to reset whatever the Mario game does after it's open.

Wow that's crazy, and looking below at "Similar Threads" the thread about "Checkpoint" seems to be the same issue. Thanks for letting me know of the weird issue
