Hello everyone, I hope you are having a great week !

Posting this thread to get some feedback about something :

When copying a PKG file to a USB (with a file size under 4 GB)

The 4.82 PS3 Super Slim (HAN Enabled) has no problem recognizing and installing the PKG file.

However, if the PKG file (saved to a USB)

Is over 4 GB in size, the PS3 is unable to view the PKG file.

My questions are :

1. Why is this ?

2. Are there a ways to transfer the PKG files over 4 GB to a Super Slim PS3 (with out a USB storage device) ?

3. If yes to #2, what methods are currently available ?

Multiman and FileZilla. You transfer it through an Ethernet Cable. It’s extremely fast. You can find guides on the internet.
PS3 doesn’t recognize it because the PS3 system was created by Sony to support the old FAT32 format - and this system file format didn‘t allow any file to be bigger than 4GB (but well what do u expect from a 2006 console).

@MeAndHax

Thanks, so the FAT32 format is the cause of the 4 GB+ restriction/limit

Will look up the methods you have mentioned.

Also, just to clarify, one would need to connect an ethernet cord from their PS3 directly to a PC/Laptop to transfer 4 GB+ files ?
Yup. There are also other methods, but I prefer this one because it’s the fastest.

Hmm, still have been unable to find a good tutorial on how to do this (connect PS3 to PC/laptop via ethernet and transfer files)

The methods I found require hardmods or CFW.

Currently using the super slim HAN online method (latest FW).

I think I am getting hung up on the IP-Address steps

You can't transfer files over 4GB due to how FAT32 works I believe, but you can use PKG Linker. If you put the files you want to transfer into the folder and run the application, it'll give you a small pkg file which you can load on your PS3. Then, a new icon will appear under the package manager folder where you can transfer files over LAN. I highly reccomend connecting everything via Ethernet though because it can take forever.

There's a splitter method coming out

For awhile the way to go was pkg linker with a lan cable, but it's a pain in the ass since you have to disable your firewall everytime you need to use it.
