Hacking Region-free-ness with legit games?

My friend's dad regularly visits the USA and bought some Wii games when he was last there. Of course, they don't work in their PAL Wii. They're not interested in any kind of piracy or running downloaded games, they'd just like their Wii to be region free.

Is it possible, and how?

You could install Gecko OS, then it would work.
You would have to perform the Twilight Hack to get that running.

use arcmod5 to install a new systemmenu 3.2e to install the "enhanced region free" now you have disc channel region free

but you still need to enable homebrew through twilight hack also

Nope, Gecko OS would just be a channel on their Wii.
They can choose when they want to use it.

They are just additional channels. Or one additional channel launching a loader program.

The method with the smallest modification is using the twilight hack to install the homebrew channel. And then run Geck OS via the homebrew channel from sd card.

This way you don't mess with your firmware at all, and everything that is changed is that you have an additional channel(the homebrew channel).
