This is a environment to be loaded with the EnvironmentLoader.

It's recommended to coldboot into EnvironmentLoader (and Aroma) via the PayloadLoader. Check the repository out for more information.

What is Aroma?

Read this blogpost for more information

Features

Aroma's tools, modules and plugins are modular, meaning that features can easily be added or removed.

A default Aroma instance comes with the following features:
  • Compatibility with the latest firmware (5.5.5/5.5.6).
  • Free and persistent entrypoint (including an installer + coldboot option)
  • Compatible with existing entrypoints (browser exploit)
  • Easy setup and update: Just copy the files to the SD card.
  • Built-in support for modules
  • Built-in integration of the Wii U Plugin System
  • All modules and plugins use a seperate memory heap to improve stability
  • Plugins and homebrew applications can be used at the same time.

These basic features can be easily extended by plugin. Common plugins are:
- homebrew_on_menu_plugin: Load homebrew directly from the Wii U Menu instead of using a dedicated homebrew launcher.
- ftpiiu_plugin: Run a FTP server in the background.
- wiiload_plugin: Wiiload support: Launch homebrew/plugin via the network at any time.
- drc_region_free_plugin: Pair game pads from different regions
- region_free_plugin: Launch games from different regions.
- screenhot_plugin: Take screenshots anywhere
Download

A bundle with the latest files can be downloaded here.

Usage

1. Extract the files to the root of your sd card
2. Launch the environment via the EnvironmentLoader. You may need to hold `X` while launching the EnvironmentLoader to force open the menu.

Open the Plugin Configuration Menu using L + Down + SELECT (-) on the GamePad or Pro Controller (or B + Down + Minus (-) for WiiMotes).

Excuse me, question. Do I NEED a sd card once I set this up? I'm asking cause wii u SD card slot is not the greatest in the world.... So you know. In case that's just stops working on people... Options get limited if you know what I mean. :ninja:

from the blog Maschell posted
Aroma will provide a plugin, which scans the .rpx and .wuhb files on your SD card and display them on your Wii U Menu.

Aroma is here! Congrats Maschell!

This is important to note from Maschell's post:
Note 1:.elf homebrew are not and will never be supported by Aroma due to technical limitations. To continue using these homebrew apps, you need to launch into Tiramisu. Note 2: Not all .rpx files will be compatible out of the box. Make sure the application doesn’t launch it’s own exploits and implements the ProcUI loop properly. If you have trouble with this please join the Aroma Discord.

If you need to use .elf homebrew stick with Tiramisu for now.

Hopefully sign_c2w_patcher, which is currently written as .elf, can be converted to work with Aroma. Would be nice to have a wuhb that bundles sign_c2w_patcher with a forwarder for a vWii homebrew that supports c2w like Wii64 or WiiSXRX. I'm not sure how that would work, but I'm just throwing this idea out there!

So I can run US games on Japanese Wii Us without issues now!? It's nice that gamepads of different regions can now be paired. Makes me wonder if I should get rid of the Japanese Wii U unit I have since I bought it for the gamepad.

If I use this, do I need to give up CBHC? I dislike the weird corruption of the logo that my tiramisu Japanese Wii U gets on boot-up. I also hate that it can't go to wii mode easily compared to my CBHC wii U.

Maybe a wups plugin would be the ideal for the c2w patcher thing, we just need to wait until someone ports it or we could just learn to code hehe

The region free plugin caught my attention. I have a Japanese Wii U, and many games that are the US version will show up in Japanese. I wonder if that plugin can do something about changing it to English.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
