Info on this topic is terribly outdated

use mame 2003 plus
plugins can be configured to use their own .cfg's, so you don't have to worry about version conflicts anymore.
huge compatibility
Thank you, that's exactly what I was looking for.

Together with the FBA core from a certain brazilian blog it's working very well out of the box, huge compatibility. The Wii really is awesome.

Many thanks Sonic - I had no idea about the different types of ROMs. I downloaded my ROMs more than a decade ago so I wouldn't be surprised if they are the wrong type.

And thanks for the screenshots - I'm going to redownload and organize my ROMs in the same way.

how did it go?

Hi, after buying a new PC I try to install some MAME Emulators on my PC for playing the MAME ROMs and the main problem is that some games don't appear on the list of the emulator. Is that meaning that the game is broken to search for a new one or the problem is in the emulator, just to mention I have RetroArch emulator installed.

I know this might be an aged thread but it ranks high on Google search for a compatibility list for MAME 2000 core for RA Wii.
Here's a sheet I did for it - it's good for the 1.4 and 1.5 releases.
docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1y8RbIV_7w1jUZGhbeaHokRNi3-r80Fw8pLoUqJdrLKw/
As observed by myself and others, a lot of games have a graphics garble problem, but there's still loads that work great.
I've documented what I could find where there is an overlap with FBA, and a recommendation for what you should use
As a general rule I think MAME 2000 is best for golden age games, including some great and unusual mid to late 80's Atari games, and FBA best for mostly late 80's thru 90's.
An added complexity: RetroArch 1.4.x and 1.5.x on Wii right now have an audio problem with the CPS2 and Neo Geo cores.
So... if you want the normal audio for those... you'll have to use 1.3.6 release (or earlier)... which doesn't have the MAME core included.
Until they fix the audio bug, I tend to swap between versions using custom paths on SD:
sd:/apps/retroarch-wii-1.3.6
sd:/apps/retroarch-wii-1.5.0
and I edit the app icon to watermark the version onto it so make it easy to spot on the HB channel.
You'll have to wipe the config files each time you switch to a different release.
I also find it best to sort out the roms from their parent romsets (FBA 0.2.97 and MAME 0.37b5) into dirs for loading by varying cores
sd:/retroarch/roms/FBA-CPS1
sd:/retroarch/roms/FBA-CPS2
sd:/retroarch/roms/FBA-NeoGeo
sd:/retroarch/roms/FBA-bigcore
sd:/retroarch/roms/MAME0.37b5
sd:/retroarch/roms/MAME0.37b5/samples <= put your samples zips here, works great

By the way, if you want the compatibility list for FBA for RA Wii, here it is:

Kudos for Beerbarian's lists! I plan on fiddling with GameCube FBA, so maybe I can add some more/new info to the list. I guess for the MAME list this one is more recent: https://gbatemp.net/threads/mame2003-compatibility-list.551556/ (but unfortunately not a google doc yet). Or is there an other compatibility list for FBA as well?

EDIT: I also found this list https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qqzlzn0rASB_6ybJq88BP3eTKf8VUNH8oPVhQ-iy0_c/ (fba_compat_list), but I don't know the source anymore. Is this also a list of yours @beerbarian ?

EDIT: Ah, that list is from the libretro forums. It was uploaded to Google by @hobblinharry: https://forums.libretro.com/t/help-with-roms-for-neo-geo/1519/7 (but he wasn't the creator). I think the original creator was Tanuki here https://forums.libretro.com/t/retroarch-wii-gamecube-releases-v1-0-0-2/270/12 (not sure if he's also on GBATemp).

It was also shared here (https://gbatemp.net/threads/mame-wii-crashes-when-exiting-roms.368760/#post-5064143) by nakata6790.

I hate ordering stuff online if I can go buy it somewhere close to me, and everywhere anymore will give you a discount only if you order it online, bs. Should be a discount if I go pick it up, not order online.

I love it for most things most stores you just shows the receipt online and they scan it

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Mostly for big purchases, I want it in my hands before I pay. Like a tv, I trust picking it up myself, before I'd trust it being sent thru mail/delivery. (Broken screen, etc) But yea if I can order online, then pickup at store is ok, but not all places offer that.

Thing is, if you break it driving back to your house, it's your fault. But if the delivery driver damages it, it's not your fault.

Most people that haul big tvs have empty trucks or know enough not to set it face down

Then I gotta send it back and wait another week or two. I have a pickup truck, with a extended cab, so no prob for me.
