So, while we've all been discussing and speculating about the latest Gateway 3DS developments, our buddy Smealum has been plenty busy with some new work, work involving custom channels and the ability to play homebrew in 3D! We do not have an expected ETA at this time (and smealum actively encourages users to not pester him so about it!) but based on the blurb he has posted there's still a good amount of work to be done!

So way to go Smealum, keep up that awesome work! We are all looking forward to seeing where this goes!

Amazing.
I can hardly (but will have to) wait for more progress to be shown.
I'm super excited about where this will lead lol
Homebrew is open source development which will/can increase sales. So Nintendo, just remain quiet so you can gain some money off of this | Watch your product be made into something more beautiful :)

seems a bit too soon to be throwing in the homebrew channel logo, but still good progress.
it would be cool to see an actual hbc eventually

Is that a Black 3DS XL? Thought those came with firmware above 4.5 unless it's from a different region or the hack doesn't matter in terms of firmware?

LOL I was trying to find a better image. :/ Ironically the writing comes naturally, I hated finding the title images. :P

BUH-BYE Gateway! As some as some decent custom firmware comes out, we can put all these shady overpriced flashcarts and their bricking drama exactly where they belong... In the dustbin.

Smealum will say that he will release it when it is "piracy proof"*... Let's pretend we believe him, it is better that way. I am sure no one wants Nintendo's lawyers on his back...

*There is no way he can make it piracy proof. But i would say the same thing in his shoes....

Looks good, cant wait to see where this goes.
I dream of playing Emulators on the 3ds in 3D, hopefully thats possible.

Also it seems like he's running on a 4.0 firmware, sucks even more for those who dont have access to a 4.0 3ds, hopefully a higher fw exploit is eventually found.

A usermode only thing like this is piracy proof. IIRC you need kernel access to enable piracy, which is impossible with what is shown in that vid.

The best part is that we won't even need a homebrew channel. We can just create our own channels and install them like Smealum did here.

i used to go out to the recycling center every couple weeks and look at the crts and other electronics people would drop off. Usually screens were broken or severely scratched from being tossed around. Did find a good one here and there, but never anything like a 1080i widescreen crt.

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.

Free release can have loopholes where they still make money through ads
