Tiramisu on 5.5.6 - Is it normal to have to reboot the system between each separate game install?

I’m running Tiramisu (5.5.6) (not on auto boot) on my Wii U, and everything of working great. I can load and play my Wii U games just fine by using my PC to put them on the front SD card and then using WUP Installer GX2 to install the games to the 2TB external hard drive connected to my Wii U.

My question is, I have found that if i install a game (or update or DLC), and then go to install another one - it ALWAYS freezes. I simply reset the system and then try to install it again and it works perfectly fine. Just curious if this is normal behavior?

Thanks!

I ran into this as well launching WUP Installer GX2 through Mii Maker.

I recommend installing the WUP Installer GX2 channel referenced here and launching from the Wii U homescreen instead of through HBL or the Mii channel. It's been much more stable for me (able to install multiple games at once, and no more crashes after installs).

Oooohh,

Thank you for that! I was just about to look into batch installs. Nusspli is cool, in theory, but waaaayyy too slow to be even remotely practical. It took nearly 3 hours to download and install a 10GB game as opposed to about 15 minutes total when using USB Helper like normal. The saved steps are not worth the time difference.

Thanks again for the link.

that's not normal. try nusspli if you're not using it.
Thanks!

Of course it is, it uses the actual console hardware. Just like when people actually bought the games from the eshop like a chump. Set it to download and go watch porn or whatever.

Is WUP even being support anymore? It always crashes now and again when installing huge games. Nusspli and its lite version can install the NUS and WUP files just like what wup does anyway but much more stable. But hey, you do you.

NUSspli can do that, too, and in case you don't want the download function use NUSspli Lite from the homebrew appstore.

Blame Nintendo for that: The Wii Us hardware is just slow. Anyway, NUSspli is downloading faster than the eShop, so... ;)

It's been much more stable for me
But still buggy, right? You want to use Y-Mod instead of GX2 for the most bugfree (but still bugged) experience. The thing is WUP Installer is unmaintained since years, so bugs won't get fixed.

Here a comparison between WUP Installer Y-Mod and NUSspli Lite:
WUP Installer Y-ModNUSspli Lite
Can do batch installsYesYes
Can install from any path on your SD cardNoYes
Can install from NAND and USBNoYes
Bugs get fixed when foundNoYes
Uses modern, stable dependenciesNoYes
Uses hacky workaroundsYesNo

Thanks for the info.

Since I already have the full instance NUSspli installed, and i plan on using it just for the installer function for games on my front SD card, there’s no reason to install NUSspli lite as well, correct? Just for the heck of it, I went to the HB store and installed NUSspli Lite - but I was never able to see it anywhere - in the HB launcher screen or on my channels. Odd.

Anyhow, I had the NUSspli network connection drop overnight. Lots of wasted time, lol. So, I’ll definitely just continue using USB Helper to get the files and then use NUSspli to do the batch installing for me.

Thanks for the tip!

NUSspli lite is Aroma only. You using HBL shows you're running Tiramisu instead, So that's the issue. Anyway, no real issue cause, as you said: No need for you to run NUSspli Lite.

NUSspli should retry downloading 10 seconds after such an issue happened...?

It tried to re-download but kept looping the error. No worries, I now have installed NUsspli as a channel - and am using it as suggested to install all of my games from the SD card that I load from USB Helper. It’s a great combination of tools for sure.

P.S. this is random, but do you see Elebits or Excite Truck (both native Wii titles) ANYWHERE in USB Helper? I don’t see why they wouldn’t be there…. Just wanted to make sure I’m not missing them. Thanks again!

if they exist, they would probably be on nusspli. I think usb helper only shows titles that have known tickets, since it's pretty old. we know how tickets are made, so if they do exist, nusspli should work.

I've never used nusspli (had all the games I wanted, plus like 76 I bought). I used system config tool for its batch install, probably a few years before nusspli existed. also backed up my saves using it, but what's odd is that there was no function to inject saves, only back them up.

What’s your workflow for games that have DLC and updates? Do you update the base games first, then the updates, then the DLC? That’s how I have been doing it… I just wish there was a batch way that detected DLC and updates and installed in order during installation via NUSspli.

Just being picky at this point…

I'm not sure. I think you might have to keep doing that. there's a file called versions.bin that prevents you from installing a lower firmware game (it only works with games and updates), so if you installed an update first, if it's even possible, the lower version of the base game shouldn't install. dlc is not contained within this file. it gets installed in its own folder, as do games, and updates. I don't know what might happen with the dlc. I know I was able to install dlc on say the ps5 for a ps5 game, before installing the game or any updates, but it will not let you move the dlc unless the game is part of the transfer.

^- This. Wii U USB Helper is old, so it's missing all releases after like 2016. On the other side NUSspli is able to download what's on the NUS (Nintendo Update Servers) only while Wii U USB Helper uses some other sources.
As a fun fact: NUSspli was able to download titles not officially released at that point in time. No idea why Nintendo had them on the servers before release but yea... ^^

Not really odd as SCT is a tool for dev consoles, not retail ones... It was just hackers feeling cool converting it to retail (CDEcrypt + NUSPacker... So no action one should be proud of but oh well).

Doesn't matter.

Might be shameless self-advertising but when you try to download some content with NUSspli you might get asked interesting questions...

afaik, installing the normal version of sct works on retail (was originally though it bricked consoles just being installed), but afaik it just makes it to where you can't delete it as it's treated as a system title. I don't know if that's correct or not.

Haha.

Love the self-promotion!

My unit is up and running great. All 3DS titles play just fine through tiramisu by default. DS games play just fine and appear on my home menu after using twilight++. I tested a few GB and NES games - all worked fine. I think I’ll fill in all the suggested default rom folders that Twilight++ offered as I’m sure they’re there because their known to work.

Thanks again!

I didn’t find any difference between Nusspli, USB Helper nor WiiUDownloader in terms of available games. Games that should be there aren’t on each of them equally and then I look for them manually, wbfs files. Question is if they never were in eshop , ticket is somehow blocked by Nintendo counter hacks , steps. There are also wad files for Wii games but I’m afraid of running them and bricking console. Second thing is that genuine motion plus lacking wiilot is needed an I already bought only motion plus ones ;) It looks like many of missing games are old Wii ones or “Indy” type Wii ware but Wii U titles as well, strange.

Regarding main topic that WUP Installer GX2 allows me to install in one go dozens of games. I don't care what comes first, game, dlc or update, it seems to work ok. I also don't have to reboot , rarely it crashes after I started using Sandisk SSD Plus 240GB in portable case with Via chip 10gbps, that overall draws small current and I don't need Y cables. I would look into performance of used drive and SD card as a cause of any freezes. One more thing, I use 5.5.5 firmware because it looks strange to me that Nintendo has released 5.5.6 for no apparent reason.
