Trails of cold steel PC question

Do you have to have a gaming laptop to play Trails of cold steel? Now playing Trails of Cold Steel 2 and it's not compatible with the Steam Deck, so it's now playing on the gaming laptop I have now, but it's getting a little tired. Will buy 3 and 4 eventually.

I'm playing Trails of Cold Steel 2 and just finished the last chapter, now I'm at where I play as lloyd, do I have to finish that chapter before I can play Trails of Cold Steel 3?
