What are some of the most questionable game design decisions in various video games? They can be older video games to modern video games.

  • In Romancing SaGa 1 the story progresses by the amount of battles you have fought instead of completting missions, so you can miss a lot of missions if you get in too much battles.
  • In The Simpsons' NES games both running and jumping are mapped to the A button.

Sun glare in every game that uses it. To add to that, overly dark sections that are there just to cover up shit graphics.

Catching rides and node setups in UT3.

See, ut2004 had onslaught, a game of connect the dots that introduced vehicles in first persoon shooters. The only real flaw in the design was that bases connected to the nearest dot through a single node. Meaning: coming back after one team took that down was nigh impossible, because soon the others had the whole map and vehicles. Further excarbated by the fact that small vehicles could transport people on top.
The solution: most community releases had two dots from the main base, making matches far more dynamic.

UT3 did away with the transport method and have everyone a hoverboard and a way to latch behind vehicles. Meaning: you fell at every sharp turn, you couldn't fire or even properly look around. A single enemy hit sent you ragsolling (so an easy kill).
They kept the single node setup. But they added some asymmetric maps because i have no clue why. The mode was so terrible it's beyond comedy bad.

The worst part: whenever someone now says 'fuck epic', it's not because of that, it's not because unreal 2 was anything but unreal 1...it's because they dislike a certain popular game or a wannabe steam store.

Hyrule Warriors running at 1080p on the Switch in handheld mode.

If I remember correctly, there is a 720p mod available but the UI doesn't scale properly which indicates the team Keoi Tecmo decided to save money by not recreating the interface for handheld mode.

Pokemon Let's Go. Finally get a Gen 1 remake and they remove battling wild pokemon and force catching using Go mechanics, also to gain exp. Such a shame.

playing Fire Emblem Three Houses Dimtri's route. he turn's into a total douche after the first half when seeing a father type figure getting kill for no reason which could of stopped by the Byleth. he turn's back to normal self. trust me i thought i would hated Edelgard's true route but that was better then DImtir's route that's for sure.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.
  • Veho @ Veho:
    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
