So I suggested getting my gf a tablet for Christmas, now that the Nexus is looking so sexy - but after discussing what she'd use it for we decided a 10'1 tablet would suit her best. And there just doesn't seem to be any obvious stand out in the 10'1 category in my price range, like there is with 7 inchers. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking to spend maybe £150-£250 and so far I'm considering

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 - £219 (£269 minus £50 official Samsung cashback)

Motorola Xoom 2 - £189 delivered

Acer Iconia A210, £249 delivered

Archos A101 G9 Turbo 8gb £149

But every time I get close to deciding on one I read a review saying it's laggy, or unreliable or whatever. Does anyone have any experience with any of these tablets and can give me their impressions (or suggest a better deal), or is anyone knowledgeable enough in terms of specs to give me advice? She'll mostly be using it for watching video, surfing the net etc.

While I haven't had any experience with most of the tablets listed, I do have an HP Touchpad with Android installed and I must say it runs smoother than my sisters Motorola Xoom 2. It makes a great tablet with a $200 budget, and you can usually find them on eBay for around that much. It has a dual-core Snapdragon processor, 16GB (or 32GB, but that's more rare) of internal memory, 1GB of RAM, An Adreno...220 GPU I believe, and some crappy 1.3mp camera on the front (although it's currently not working on the latest ICS nightly). If I had to suggest a cheap tablet that works great, an HP Touchpad would be my recommendation.

Think I might have done that if it was for me, but as it's a gift I'd want it to be brand new and all the ones on eBay are used.

I bought my GF the Acer Iconia A700 which is quite above your budget but it proved to be an awesome product. I have owned Acer laptops for over 5 years now and its always been a good experience. So, my vote goes to the Acer Iconia Tab.
