Gaming Why doesn't Nintendo do things that make sense with their IPs?

Nintendo has a wide range of cool characters that have great back stories that come from interesting locations, and yet the only crossovers we ever see are the Smash games. Rather than doing smart things like taking that tired and at this point very uncool ol' Mario Party series and turning it into a 'Nintendo Party' game featuring locales and minigames from across the Nintendo spectrum, or making some sort of 3D platformer featuring characters with different abilities and shit, we get what amounts to Nintendo just plain not utilizing the potential behind each of their series, it's not cool.

Don't get me wrong, I love Nintendo's first party efforts. It's just that, you know, there are so many possibilities and it's a shame seeing the best of those not touched on or even thought about (with the exception of Smash).

As cool as your idea is, I think, it's kind of hard to argue with Nintendo logic. Their main problem is figuring out where to deposit all that effin' cash. They do too many things that make sense. Your question would perhaps be better stated as something like this: "Why doesn't Nintendo make more games that I want?"

Here's the thing: Yes, Nintendo are huge, and yes, they're pretty much a household name. But when the typical mom walks into the electronics dept. at her local WallyWorld, she doesn't ask the rep. to direct her to the Nintendo games, she asks where she can find some Mario games. Mario is McDonald's. Mario is Levi's. Mario is Hollywood...you get the picture. Mario Party sells, regardless of how weather worn we may perceive it to be.

Your question would perhaps be better stated as something like this: "Why doesn't Nintendo make more games that I want?"

Haha, yeah, you pretty much hit the nail on the head there. Nintendo already makes plenty of cool games that I like. My question is, why can't they utilize the shit-tons of potential that each of these series has? Super Mario Galaxy was definitely them doing just that (as was Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario 64 before it... I have yet to play a 3D Mario that felt samey, 'cept for SM64DS, and that game was still pretty cool), and you can argue that Metroid Prime 3 was too, but all these ideas that take less than a fraction of a second to pop up in the heads of fans... how the hell can Shiggs or whoever sit in some board room discussing games, not having the same thoughts, not going "hey, I should pitch this shit, it's cooooool"?

Yes, because you had thought of Mario in space with spherical worlds way back in 98.
