Homebrew Why I think it is fine to update to 2.1.0 even if you want to have homebrew

Hello, here are a few reasons why I think it is ok to still update to 2.1.0 even if you want homebrew:

Homebrew in the future could possibly support the latest version (before a new patch)

Also lets say something like a9lh comes out for the Switch in the future. Nintendo could patch the ability to get it. But then there will be a possibility to downgrade to the hackable firmware. But then of course Nintendo will try to patch that, and we will try to fix that like the 3ds. (But unfortunately 11.3 is not).

I would update now if you want online functionality with the Switch. The hackers will tell you not to update when they find userend exploits for homebrew if you want that.

Counterargument: No exploits that enable homebrew have been publicized yet. Nintendo has developers that work to specifically fix bugs on the console, and if they released a software update, it's to improve stability, and, more often than not, fix bugs that could enable homebrew. Let's say this update patched an undiscovered entrypoint, and it gets discovered sometime after. Now you can't use it because you're on a newer firmware. I bet it would make you feel real dumb that you upgraded and don't have homebrew.

Though in any case, even if you were to use homebrew, you'd want the system to be on around the middle of firmware updates for the Switch. Cause the OS is pretty much empty and bare-bones, and there will be so many more features added in the future. So I'd really be updating till it comes to a point there won't be any more good new features, and then stay on that firmware. (unless of course, the homebrew allows emuNAND updates)

Well I'm pretty sure that people shouldn't care so much about this. Just update, and when homebrew come, it'll just come.
In other hand, it's now to fix the problems with the WiFi? Such as the problems conecting to 2.4ghz networks or this?

I highly doubt it, someone should check in any case. They would've included it in the changelog if they did tbh.

I don't think so. I mean, changing that is doing stability updates, after all. But you may also be right idk.

Yes, but that's usually when they patch up exploits or little bugs. I'd think they would include it in the changelog because after efforts have been made to fix a major issue like framerates and WiFi, it'd only be obvious they would at least want to mention their success. Besides, they usually do this. I guess we'd have to wait for a real changelog.

That is not at all what I'm asking.

Could you be more specific then? :P
Do you mean which URL's nintendo sends the updates from to the switch?

How about a compromise? Wait a few days after an update is released.

Usually by that point someone would have announced something if they had anything.

If most people have updated by the time an exploit is released, chances are the few who hadnt upgraded will find there will be little support anyway unless they know what theyre doing.

If you change your user agent to a Switch you can actually connect to the update download servers. You can't actually download anything yet, but I'm working on it.

There's no reason to hold back, just update and enjoy your games.
Even if that PegaSwitch doesn't work anymore, you will not see anything homebrew related neither in this year or next one.

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
