So I was reading about people's threads about their wii's lazer being broken.
What are the chances of getting it b0rked and what actually causes it?

well the laser has a life span, not sure about anything causing it besides playing it. I would like to know the life span though

which equals to more than 100 days of straight playing.

No need to worry, the disc drive is good for a long time. Then we'll start to worry

lol, i hope my drive doesnt die soon... i have a d2b wii... ive had it since march 07. i play it like every day.... if something breaks, i'd rather get it repaired and get a chip while im at it, instead of buying a new wii.

i think the span is 3500 hours loading backups.
Where did you hear this?

My drive is a launch day DMS, two years and still going strong.

Replacement drives on Ebay are fairly inexpensive too. Just replace the whole drive if something happens.

Well, I've always have my trusty retailer here. So yeah, if anything's faulty, I shall go to him first.

The Wii laser is good quality and should last years of constant use.

The motor for the dvd drive however is crap. My motor died and wouldn't spin up games correctly resulting in many errors etc.

Some people seem to think that if a drive "dies" it's the laser, but there are many different parts to a dvd drive and when worrying about the Wii, you should note that the laser will outlast the m otor, I think that is the weakest link in the hardware chain there.

If you really want to keep your stuff I'd go for the replacement drive. Lately, Nintendo has been fond of just switching systems out

) , the company is pretty good and you will see your stuff from them in about 2 weeks. They're located in Canada and they even give you a site to track your stuff

However, my wii doesn't read DVD Dual Layer anymore (SSBB for exemple), I'm really angry about that, I've tried to ajust the POT and to clean the Lens, nothing happen.
I seaching hard for a "how to fix" that..
If someone know, please post here or send me a message

There may be a cheaper place. Another alternative is to look through your phone book and find a computer repair shop. Some of the owners of "mom and pop" computer repair places like to dabble into the homebrew arena so you never know who you may find that just bight be able to fix a Wii DVD lens.

If you know how to do that, it's quite easy, to change peaces of wii is easy, I openned mine yesteaday, but I did a technical course about eletronic.
Probably the lazer just break with bad midias or bad burnt games.
You know, always use a good burner and midias of quality (like verbatin, here in Brazil I just find Ridata, that is good, but Verbatin is better)
